Finally gave up on XP after requiring a second reinstall...

First one: Upgraded mobo/CPU and HAL lost its mind
Second one: Uninstalled my Iomega drivers due to selling my Jaz. Booting hung on leftover Iomega bits. Recovery console'd in and disabled all the Iomega services still floating around. Then it started hanging on a required service: fastfat. Sigh.

Gave up. Back to 2k for me... Wish all my games would run under linux. 🙁

Does anybody else have the problems I have???
 
My Windows XP has worked flawlessly except on 2 occasions. The first was when I installed some crappy 3rd party drivers for my joystick. The second was when my video card died.

Other than those (neither of which was Windows' fault), I've had no problems.
 
I've run Windows XP Pro for a while and had one problem with it, and that was bad memory, so that wasn't Windws' fault.

About your problems:
Doing a major (ie motherboard and CPU) upgrade with Windows XP can be daunting as far as making the OS "lose it's mind", basically it has. Like a brain transplant. Though it does kinda suck.

And the Iomega issue sounds like just that, an Iomega issue. It is not the fault of Windows that the Iomega uninstall software didn't uninstall the Iomega stuff correctly, which is what seems to have happened.

I agree with you on both counts, but what sucks is XP (and 2k's) way of dealing with these problems...

The Iomega issue wouldn't have been a problem IF I could have used a true Safe Mode to get in. I spent hours disabling services one at a time to try to rescue the current install.

And the motherboard issue... Why can't Windoze roll back to a generic driver until you can install the proper ones? Instead, I get a HAL error and crash at boot. I found out later that I could have manually changed the driver prior to the upgrade, but why should I. Again, 2k looks like it is the same way (sigh).

XP didn't CAUSE the problems, but it sucked at resolving them.
