When playing on-line games, how are ping rates affected by the network? Is there a noticeable difference vs wireline routers? What ping rates do you get?

OK, here goes another one:

If I have a wireless setup (AP and card) and my neighbor gets card only, does it mean he can surf Internet for free? I would not really care most of the time, but if he/she uses it to snoop on my home PCs? Currently I have a ?wired? LAN connected to outside world via D-Link router. It has a built-in firewall so I have some kind of protection. The wireless AP would have to go on ?this side? of the firewall, completely defeating the whole LAN security. Or I am missing something?

Any network PROs around to calm down paranoid user?

Assuming he is in range, a BIG assumption, you can still secure your LAN with several options. Turn broadcast SSID off, if your AP lets you, and change your SSID on the AP and your client card. Enable WEP. Filter by MAC address if your AP has this feature. Doing these three things will secure you wireless LAN to all but the most ardent snoopers.
