It's why changes to gun control and gun culture aren't just about waiting until someone is obviously a threat. Someone can be a responsible gun owner... until they suddenly aren't. Regulation might not have helped much in this case, but the ubiquity and fondness for guns in America certainly played a role here.

Okay, a sound notion, but...this person was not seen or known to be a risk, and obtained his firearm legally. He had no criminal record, and no mental health history. So...how do you identify that this person *shouldn't* have had a firearm, before he started shooting?

And I ask this as in relation to the rest of our existing gun laws, red flag laws that may or may not have been in place, etc. None of them would have seen this guy as a threat, nor prevented this incident.

The story as it stands makes no sense. There is one or more other events that took place.

Yeah I was a bit confused about the off-hand reference (and so far, lack of explanation) of a vehicle theft followed by a crash, and then driving the stolen box truck into a residence before he proceeded on foot, carrying the gun.

Obviously they need to do their investigations, but there's parts of the incident that are missing in the description at this point, and it will take time for a more complete picture of what occurred that day.

It really isn't, its just that American gun fetishists have made such abundant access to them while championing the mentality of shooting your perceived problems that's made for a trigger happy populace, which has caused a feedback loop because they stoke fear and how guns are the only protection for it, which then adds extra combustibility to peoples' mindsets.

MA has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, and is 49th in gun deaths per Capita. I would submit that this guy, as the reports have said, really kept his exterior persona and interior persona very isolated. Sometimes you can't account for it.

For example, the article I linked mentions that he proposed to his wife by skipping a Bernie Sanders rally she went to so that he could go ask for her parents' blessing. The fact that this was the only reason he didn't go with her to the rally suggests to me that he was a lefty, or at least, his wife thought he was. And furthermore, Bernie Sanders is a Jew, and now he apparently hates Jews and wants them all dead. Maybe he just fooled his wife the entire time. It happens.
