I have a Playstation 3 game that I got from Wal-Mart. It is unopened, but I have no receipt. What kind of policy do they have for a situation like this? Could I return it to any Wal-Mart? I paid in cash, so would they only give me store credit or what? Could I use that store credit at a different Wal-Mart?

Does it still have the Walmart price tag on it? If yes, they will probably give you store credit as long as you haven't opened it and still had the walmart price tag.

YMMV. It's unopened, so they may give you a break.
It really depends on who you talk to and the manager there...

You'll only get store credit without a receipt.

Returns Policy by Department
All merchandise purchased from Walmart.com may be returned either to a store or by mail within 90 days of receiving it, unless otherwise noted below. Additional guidelines are also noted below.

BOOKS, MOVIES & VIDEO GAMES
* CDs, DVDs, audiotapes, videotapes and video games: Must be returned unopened.
* Books: Must be returned unused and unmarked.

Doesn't look like you need a receipt, but it's not very clear. Call them up and ask your local store.

yeah, I looked through the website but nothing was concrete. I also hear that they are very lenient with their return policies.

There are no stickers of any sort on the game. Also, would it matter if the particular store still carried the game and/or still had it in stock?

It depends on what time of year it is... Some stores get bombarded with returns and management tightens the policies. If you go in some night when things are slow, you might get better results.... Things vary from Walmart to Walmart as well.

i am not condoning this and it probably wont work anymore.

about 5-6 years ago my friend bought a used ps2 off a guy he had in class with some games.
one of the games was some ATV racer crappy game. so friend took the game back (opened) and said 'this disc doesnt work in my ps2, i got it as a gift'
they said they could only exchange it for the same game.
friend said, thats fine. so he got a new one. shrinkwrapped...unopened.
took that back to another W*M and got money back.

i think they mark the games in some way to stop this practice now. surely, they've caught on.

A few years ago, I grabbed a PS@ game from a WalMart. Little did I know, there was no disc in it, but it was still shrink wrapped. Returned it, and the same thing happened with the next game. At that point WalMart wouldn't let me return the second disc-less game

=/

Depends on the store, and the employee.

Two Wal-Marts, about 30 miles apart; one in the city, one in a rural area.

The city Wal-Mart has changed their store policy to not accept any exchanges without receipt for items from the electronics department. According to the manager, the high amount of theft in the area led to many people trying to exchange stolen goods for credit at Wal-Mart.

The rural Wal-Mart has let me exchange any unopened item without receipt.

I think they open the game if you return an opened game. Your friend is an asshole. :)

To the OP - Walmart takes back items without a receipt, but you have to provide them with ID and they track how many returns you make without a receipt and will stop you if you do it too many times in a year.
