Another video card

situation...

currently running a 3500 winnie with a (agp) bfg 6800 ultra. Going to make another build with a pci-e board. Research I have done indicates that I should probably go with the 7800 series cards. What, other than frame rates increasing, am I going to get from this new card? Unless you frap it or use the ~ whatever (to get your framecount) am I going to see... basically the same performance? My thinking is once you get past a certain framerate number your not gonna tell that much difference anyway.

Just don't wanna be disappointed when i get this new card and it basically peforms the same as the ultra does...

Higher resolution, if your monitor can handle it. More detail options on in newer game higher levels of AA/AF. The new tranparent AA thing, and HDR. A card that will be enjoyable longer than one from the 6800 series.

I'm in the same boat as you though, 3500, 6800 GT. I'd like a better system, but I don't think there's a lot of gain to be had at a reasonable price trying to move up today, and my gaming is currently great. Like you said, past a certain point more fps is meaningless. I'm limited by my monitor to sub-1600x1200 resolutions anyhow, so that factors in.

Personally I'm going to try to wait til next Summer and see where things stand. Cheaper X2s, another round of vid cards, maybe the M2 socket, maybe Intel has something good out, etc. Tough call though.
