Another ticket question: Out of state seatbelt ticket - Do I pay it?

Sorry for the edit. I hate posting from my laptop.

Ok, my question is: I received a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt in Minneapolis. I live in Florida. Should I pay this ticket? Will this effect my licence in Florida if I don't pay it? What is your opinion of seatbelt laws?

No. Only you suffer the consequences of not wearing a seatbelt, and the state is not directly responsible for your safety. Tell em to take their fine and shove it.

The state has to have a coroner come pronounce you dead and also someone to scrape you up. Plus it adds a bunch of paperwork I'm sure.

This takes tax dollars so others have to deal with the consequences.

only the people that have enough brains to think of something like this are the people that buckle up right when they get in the car. b/c they're smart enough to know it will save their life.

and its people like this that make things difficult. just obey the laws set in place and everyone will be happy and safer. i dont see a sudden rash of protesters not wearing their belts..............BECAUSE its dumb not to wear one.

Wearing a seatbelt is a VERY good habit to get into. However, I don't agree with seat belt laws, except where kids are concerned.

I have no idea what consequences there are for not paying out of state tickets.

If you get the ticket and doesnt show up on the designated court date, you'll have an outstanding warrant for failure to appear. It will be very very unlikely to be enforced but why take the risk.

real hard to unbuckle it huh? its not like it needs fingerprint recognition to unlatch.

The penalty is a bench warrant..........i think its a bench warrant.......for you to appear in court in the state u violated the law in.

Ok, I think I need to expand on my position here and try to limit the flame-fest.

I started driving in 1975. There was no seatbelt law and almost no talk of the importance of wearing a seatbelt. When was seatbelts made mandatory? Maybe six years ago? I drove many more years without it being a law than when it has been. I am not arguing that it is not safer to wear them. Nor am I saying I was justified for not wearing them. Most of the time I do. Old habits are hard to break and I was just being lazy.

it all depends on if the 2 states have Reprocisity...if so your state might or might not play games w/ your driving priviledges, although I personally doubt for a seatbelt ticket, they would...W/O Reprocisity...Fla can't touch you...all they'll do will suspend your driving priviledges in the state of Fla...this happened to me a # of years ago...a redneck cop in Pensacola Fla tried to give me a speeding ticket for 70...I had a car load of buddies that new I was doing 60 (we passed the redneck cop while he had someone else pulled over, and since he saw this red musclecar drive by, I guess he decided to go after us next). When I told him I knew exactly how fast I was going, and I had a carload of witnesses to prove it, he decided to write me up for 60, which is what I was driving..needless to say, I never went to court, and never paid any fine, and the state, about 6 months later, sent me a notice to my home in Cali, saying my driving priviledges in the state of Fla were suspended:Q:p...like I really lost sleep over that...not:cool:

I don't know how people can even drive without a seatbelt. I couldn't even move my car in the driveway without putting on my seatbelt when I was driving - it just felt wrong.

i have been driveing since around 1988 (i was 14) one of the rules i had to drive was i had to have my seatbelt on. Over the years it got to the point i cant drive without it. it just feels wrong.

Anyone silly enough to drive without one deserves whatever happens to them.

Kamian, That is what I thought. I will prolly never return to Minnesota and could care less if they suspended my driving priviledges there. I would care if it effected my Florida drivers licence.

This was the kind of response I was hoping for. Not how stupid I was for not wearing a seatbelt. I already know that.
