Being a bit Hispanic and understanding the culture, and this being Texas, I'm guessing all parties involved in the story are Hispanic as well. Having children or marrying young isn't as taboo for Hispanic families as it would be for Americans and other cultures. Love, family and children are often considered blessings from God.
