On the subject of abortion. Why don't we educate and stigmatize people for abortion like we can some times do for smokers? We got the number of smokers down buy educating and stigmatizing people. Why don't we stress more education and birth control. Remember stressing abstinence should be a part of the education but so is talking about the forms of abortion AND birth control.

Abortion and sex are a tricky subject for Americans to discuss honestly. We have a long puritan history which has left people extremely uncomfortable discussing sex in any real terms; we like to just pretend it only happens with two spouses who love each other (even though that's obviously not the case). We're still debating whether we should have abstinence-only education in high school, for God's sake. I think having a frank discussion about abortion would be too much for people who are made uncomfortable by sex (far too many Americans, it turns out).

Personally I do not see it, the 20th century corporate media monopolies are the ones passing this failed outdated message.
But actual people are far more mature. What we need to do is get people away from Teevee and radio that tries to dictate our culture and farm us into emulating it.

I was going to say because stigmatizing people requires the mainstream media which is wholly leftist and abortion is practically a lefty pilgrimage. But you make a good point, so I'll just say "the above".
Also, while I personally don't have a strong opinion on smoking either way, it does get in other people's lungs whereas a well-run abortion, not so much. Plus, very few people today have a really strong pro-smoking viewpoint in the way so many people have pro-abortion viewpoints. I blame lung cancer . . .

As far as education goes - good information about contraceptives is definitely going to help prevent unwanted pregnancies. Sure, hammer abstinence as hard as you want, but teenagers (and some adults) also need good information. Anyone who thinks not giving teens good information about contraception is going to stop them from having sex is stupid. I'm sorry to anyone who is just finding out right now that they are stupid. This is not how you should find out something like this. You should probably step away from the computer and sit down with your family to discuss some ways to mitigate the harmful effects of your stupidity.
Education as far as the ultrasounds, pictures of aborted fetuses, lectures about life, etc... all that is just silly. The typical person seeking an abortion already has one or more children. They're probably have a pretty good idea what's inside them and what will happen if they don't get an abortion.

Free contraceptives = fewer abortions and fewer unwanted children.

Well, they are against family planning. I would say that using birth control is responsible.. not using it and having a bunch of unwanted kids that they can't afford is irresponsible.
They're going to extremes....
Because only women get abortions. Saying any decision that a woman makes is wrong is considered misogyny.

Abstinence is a dumb policy. It used to be, not too long ago, that once the age of 13-14 was reached, Marriage was an option. The reason for that was pretty simple, it was recognized that that was the age when people began to gravitate towards sexual activity. In order to keep the various Moral Codes, there was no option but to allow Marriage to occur.
Somewhere along the line people decided to push Marriage to a later age. However, the Moral Codes remained the same. The end result is that there is a certain portion(>50%) of the population who simply end up breaking those codes. No amount of Education is going to change that.
So we have basically 2 choices:
1) Lower the age for Marriage
2) Change the Moral Code
I disagree with 1. The ages were increased for good reasons, things like Education became very important. Too important to have Marriage, Kids, Jobs distracting large portions of the population.
I agree with 2. Our Education time/money is better spent teaching good choices and taking proper precautions in order to avoid unexpected Pregnancy and/or disease.

That CAN be a good idea but people's tax money can be used for so called LOW morals and people with low morals affect many OTHER people...
I will stop worrying about what others are doing as soon as the government stops using my tax dollars to bailout people who make stupid/immoral choices.

I used the fox as an example of how people and animals act, as if they were predisposed to act a certain way.
A fox steals chickens, some idiot keeps having kids they can not afford.
No amount of talking will make either one change their behavior.
Awhile back there was a news article about a guy who fathered something like 30 kids. He did not know what was making those kids?
Easy fix. People pay for their own abortions.
Man i need to go into politics. This decision making stuff is easy...
Mount some cameras accross the street and record all their license plates and put their names in the paper. They use to do this in certain areas for prostitution and drugs.
