Another small problem with T40???

Now that the sound problem is pretty much debated to the death 🙂 I notice another problem (might not be a problem but a little bit annoying none the less). I find that the left mouse button below the touchpad is a little bit looser than the right mouse button. Anyone notice this? It is very subtle but I can feel it and the sound produce by clicking them are a little bit difference as well. When touching the left button (the button under the palmrest), it produce a small clicking sound while the right button doesn't. Just curious. Can anybody with T40 confirm this?

Also, the left palmrest seem to be a bit flimsy. It also produce a little bit of sound when press of the edge of the left palmrest. I'm changin my typing to have my wrist hover over the palmrest (not rest over it) so it is not that annoying but worth noticing.

Haha - mine's the opposite. My trackpad buttons are the reverse; right is looser than left.

My palmrests flex, but do not make sounds. I don't put too much weight on them though.

I have a strange problem though - when I hit certain keys, if you slowly let up on them, they squeak a plastic squeak. It's annoying when I'm playing games because the tactile feel is so different.

I think that there is no support (or the support level are not even) underneath the touchpad and hence cause the noise and a little bit difference in the click feeling. On my T40, the left button is a little bit looser than the right. Most of key on the keyboard have wonderful tactile feeling. The exception would be the arrow keys on the bottom right and the Fn and spacebar key have produce a little bit different tone of sound when click. For the touchpad button, in order to hear the sound, you need to tab on the button just a little bit (not click on it) and you will hear a metallic sound produce from it. Just like you tab the touchpad but instead, tab on the touchpad buttons. On mine, the left button produce higher tone of sound than the right one (I'm talking about the touchpad button below the touchpad, BTW).

Mine is opposite as well. The left touchpad button is solid, and the right feels slighly loose. However, I did not notice this as I disabled the touchpad the same day I got my T40 🙂

I'm very much a TrackPoint fan.

Well, it is kinda annoying to me since I already knew about it. But I figure I use mouse (I love the Logitech Mouseman Traveler) most of the time so it doesn't really matter. And it look like it is normal and the looseness is probably just the manufacturer tolerance issues.
