When my Xbox360 is connected via HDMI, the display on the receiver shows that the L&R rear surrounds are on. They show as being off in the setup. I assume the receiver knows that there are no rears, right?

Which setup are the showing 'off'?

Your receiver could be mirroring the left and right side channels to the rear channels. It's a nice feature that lets you utilize all of your speakers when only a 5.1 source is being broadcast.

That's because that is what your source is, 5.1.

Typically what I have seen on receivers is that they will show boxes to represent the signal but only show text in the boxes of the speakers that are actually present. This will depend on the manufacturer though.

However, if you have your speakers turned off in the menu...its working fine. ESPECIALLY, if you can hear voices. In movies especially, if you were missing the center channel you would pretty much hear nothing in terms of voices.

Ok. Thanks. I will check the box vs text thing. I am also going to run the auto-setup tonight. I didn't realize there was a mic I was supposed to be using.

Ran the auto setup last night and everything seems to be in order.

One thing I wasn't sure about was sub crossover point. I set it to 80Hz on the receiver and cranked it all the way up on the sub. I figure I don't need both the receiver and sub dictating crossover.

Sounds right.
