You confuse overclocking with having to QA every chip for every environment etc. Its like saying Intel should sell 4Ghz+ SB/IB.

The reference HD7970GE is already a powerhungry super loud dustbuster. Its not a planned product.

I really doubt you are right here. For starters there was the "leaked" Sapphire document which showed plans for cards with even higher clocks. There's also the report that the reason the 7970 came out with so much O/C headroom was to maximize yields. Then we have the planned 7990 that's delayed. One can only assume it's because of power/thermals. While I doubt they planned for this level of power usage, I have very little doubt they didn't plan for the high clocks.

Pay 67% for more 21% perf over a $150 6870? Lol no. $200 and maybe I would be more enticed.

I understand your position. If you need/want that 21% better performance though, where are you going to find it cheaper? There's also a bit more O/C'ing headroom on the 7850 if you want to use it and boost that performance substantially.

The problem with the 7850 @ $250 is like its in a no man's land. It doesnt compare favourably to either the $150 6870 or the $330 7950. Same for 7870.

A whole new variable with the 7870. That's the card that's between a rock and a hard place. Clock for clock it's not much better than the 7850 and it's nowhere as good as the 7950 (again, clock for clock). Comparing the 7850 to the 7950 though and the difference in price is quite large. If you are drawing the line at $250 and don't want to spend over $300 on a card the 7850 is really the best choice. I agree if you have +$300 to spend on a card the 7950 is the best bang/$.

Nice spin there. One could also say they cancelled the 1Ghz because they couldnt deliver. See?

And sofar I havent seen any edvidence of a 7990 yet. Its not in the leaked Sapphire documents either.

Spin? Do you even know what that means? And one can say anything they want. It doesn't make one right though. Try reading what someone posts if you are going to respond.

Those leaked documents were either fake or chock full of wrong information. These same leaked documents showed Tahiti with hidden shaders. People, including myself, need to move on from blown-way-out-of-proportion rumors...ESPECIALLY when said rumors turn out to be clearly not only founded, but flat out false.

The GTX560Ti 448 doesn't appear to be a planned product. It looks like Nvidia saw they had a lot of defective parts so created a sku for it. To me this is a smart move, they'll get money for GPU's that they would have gotten less for, in this case probably nothing. AMD is doing the same thing, just that they are creating a higher end part to get more money for a GPU they are selling. Nvidia created a mid range performance part to get money for a part they wouldn't have gotten money for and to have more pressence in that price range. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree at this point, I simply cannot see desperation by AMD releasing a higher clocked w/turbo model that will sell for $500 instead of $430. They're making a smart business move, every GHz edition they sell nets AMD and their partners a higher profit.
