Charges the Driver Faces
The driver of the vehicle that crashed Sunday morning in Oswego, killing four teenagers and injuring four others, was formally charged Monday with four counts of reckless homicide and eight counts of aggravated drunken driving ? four counts for great bodily harm and four counts for death.

The charges for Sandra Vasquez, 23, of the 400 block of Beach Street in Aurora, were announced during a Monday morning press conference at the Oswego Police Department.

The reckless homicide charge and the aggravated drunken driving for the deaths are both Class 2 felonies, each with a possible prison sentence of six to 28 years.

The aggravated drunken driving for causing great bodily harm is a Class 4 felony with a possible prison sentence of one to 12 years.

Vasquez was charged with drunken driving on Sunday.

Vasquez remains hospitalized at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where she is under police watch.

Upon her release from the hospital, Vasquez will be transported to the Kendall County jail and her bond will be set by a judge, according to Eric Weis, Kendall County state?s attorney.

Oswego police said that Vasquez was driving the eight teens home from a party in the 0-99 block of Woodcliff Road in Oswego when the car crashed on Route 31 at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday.

Police said speed played a factor in the accident, saying Vasquez was driving over the posted 45 mph limit. However, police said they did not yet have an exact speed.

Mother of god one of them was 14.

Parents these days are SH!T. Who the hell lets their kid go drinking when they're 14? And any parent that claims they don't know there would be drinking involved is a god damn liar.

Or call their parents. I've heard of "understanding" parents who have standing agreements with their kids that if ever their kid needed a ride home, they would get it from the parent with no questions asked.

Possible that the kid was "going over to friend's house to study" as in they lied.

When I was a freshman in HS four upperclassmen died when the drunk driver of their vehicle (one of the four) missed a turn and went into a canal. When I was a senior, one classmate who was driving drunk missed a turn and went off an embankment, and died.

Fortunately I wasn't popular enough to be invited to parties.

Still, sad.

QFT on both counts. It's sad that they died, but you put ten people in a car designed for five. That's a terrible idea even if everyone's sober. Still a bad idea even with a DD and nine drunk passengers. But with all ten occupants lit up like Chinese New Year, you teased Darwin a bit too much, and he snapped.

This is what I don't get. I knew I could call any one of half a dozen people that would come help me out at any time, day or night if I asked. It was absolutely understood. I don't understand wtf these kids were doing.

Killed the two in the back seat. One was a childhood friend from long ago. The cause: consumption of MJ and other drugs.

I hate how every says MJ is a harmless drug, with no victims...

...yeah...right...

Thats just an all around sh1tty deal.

I've always told my kids and will continue to do so. You will have a cell phone. USE IT. I dont want you drinking period. I dont want you driving if you've been drinking even more.
But I will forgive your drinking to an extent as long as you call me. Any time. Any place. I will come pick you up.

Looks like you're suffering from blindness, possibly due to glaucoma or cataracts, since you couldn't see those three little words.

I suggest you smoke a joint, it will help alleviate the symptoms. It might slow down your reflexes as well, which could be good in curbing that knee-jerk reaction.

Police have said Vasquez's blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit of .08 but they have not released the level.

Thats from an article posted 6 hours ago. I did my internship with Oswego PD so I know a few of the officers and could ask them, but I also dont want to be THAT guy. They got enough to deal with.

Hate to sound morbid and uncaring, but duh. Recently had some teens die in a crash in my city too. What was it that killed them: speeding and no seat belts. I have virtually no sympathy anymore for people who can't follow rules as basic as these to preserve their lives and the people in the other car who are probably doing things right.

I had 1 shot the other day and then I drove home 6 blocks. I had a friend in my car. I was turning red (I'm Asian). Maybe Is hould've let her drive, but I was completely fine just going 6 blocks. Problem is I ran into 5 cops in those 6 blocks. Freaked me out. I will not do this again. She lives half a block away from me, so all I had to do was pull into my garage pretty much once she left, so I think I could've handled that alone.

why do a bunch of high schoolers need designated drivers?

I wonder if they themselves were drinking too? Are the cops gonna charge the people who's provided alcohol to these kids too?

There is currently an investigation going on to find what parties they were at/who supplied the alcohol.

Sad, but seriouslly, the driver gets a darwin award. The driver should have been the only one killed not these other kids. As for the alcohol, kids have a billion ways to get it. However, dumb kids for letting this person drive, shame on everyone in that vehicle.

the driver should have been the only one killed? what about the idiotic kids that did not wear a seatbelt with a person who has been drinking? what about the ones sitting on the laps of others?

teh ones that died deserve a darwin award.

I feel bad for the kids, but they should have had some common sene and not gotten in the car with a drunk driver. That's just retarded. Kids all have cell phones now, at least one of them could have called an older sibling or parent and had them pick them up. No consequence is as bad as death.

Hopefully this driver goes to jail for a long time.
