I have a friend with too much money... He wants to get a new cell phone and will sell me his RAZR pretty cheaply (probably ~50). He uses Cingular right now, what would have to be done so the phone works with T-mobile? Fifty bucks is a good deal right? TIA

You can't just make a phone work with another company. Different companies use different tech to broadcast/recieve signals.

RAZR is a supported phone by T-mobile. They dont put different HW in the phones for each cell provider... Worst case, it needs to get flashed with new firmware, hence my question because I really dont know. Unless you can prove it wont work, dont say it wont.

There is nothing proprietary in the phone by each service provider, check if the phone is operator locked, if so, you need to get it unlocked, I got my v600 unlocked from a mobile store for like 10$

Nope. All Cingular phones are locked and begging Cingular CS for an unlock code is an excersise in frustration.

To OP: Luckily for you both T-Mobile and Cingular work on GSM networks. Call your local mon and pop cell shops to see if they will unlock it for you for nominal charge. It takes about 2 minutes or less.

Don't know about Motorola, but for my Nokia, I downloaded free software and unlocked it myself a few years ago. You need a data cable obviously.

theres the best place for cell phone info

And yes you can use the dct-4 calculator with almost all the nokia phones. I did it on my 6010, 3220, and my 6101
AFAIK, Howard Forums quit allowing talk about on unlocking a year or two ago. There was another popular one were you could, but I forget where.
