Like some of you, I am in the pursuit of a cool and quiet setup. While I am not as passionate as most, I still like it when my system cools nicely without that vaccume inside my case sound. I have been largly happy with my Antec SuperLanboy and the new Enermax and Panaflo 120mm I put in it. My idle temps have been 40-43ish and load 46-50ish with my fans at approx 7-8 volts. This was very acceptable to me as when I cranked my fans, I would drop 5 or so degrees.
Now recently I actually turned my computer off for 12 or so hours and after restarting and leaving it mostly idle (except for a few downloads) for 8 hours, my CPU temo was a whopping 31 C. This seemed strange to me as my idle temps in the last few weeks have not been below 40. I played Rome:total war for about an hour and my load temps never went above 35 C. Now that I have quite, I am edging my way back down (at 33 right now and I stopped playing 4 min ago...)
Here is my question, why are my load temps and idle temps SO much lower than before? My fans are not any higher and the house temp is not any cooler (maybe a degree or two, but not much more than that). I am thinking that my case may "trap" heat for a long period of time (I don't usually shut it down more than once a week) and this causes my abnormally high temps, but that seems strange to me because after intense gaming, I can run my fans full bore and still only drop to 38 or so.
Anyone have any ideas on this? I mean, in the 2 min it took to write this, I dropped another degree... this is really wierd. Thanks!
