Another Problem with Facebook

So everyone familiar with Facebook I'm sure is aware of the annoying reminders to "get back in touch" or "say hello" to friends who Facebook has decided doesn't use their service enough. Sounds all well and good until I noticed lately Facebook has been suggesting this guy, let's call him Charles. It says I should say hello and talk to him more. But the thing Facebook doesn't realize, you see, is that Charles died at a young age in a rather tragic event earlier this year.

Now I really didn't know Charles... one of those people who you meet once or twice and end up being Facebook friends, but I can imagine such notifications being rough for those who were close to him. Maybe not a big deal, but it's definitely an argument against these kinds of "reminders". What do you guys think?

facebook is crap. after minimal use over a few months i got rid of it. another thing that sucks is it makes you wait 14 days to finally get rid of the piece of crap.

The thing I don't understand is that it had no problem recommending I get in contact with someone who is dead. However, I had to jump through hoops because my last name is Body. I am not shitting you, that is my last name and I went through lots of trouble to have it show up.

I mean I guess it's just one of those things, but it's one of those things a company like Facebook needs to keep in mind that isn't an obvious issue until it happens.

I know a guy who's last name is Muff. He never was able to get his last name in there.

I suppose my argument is against Facebook giving me suggestions on who I talk to (not necessary and annoying IMO).

Well they could just choose not to show people if they haven't been on in x amount of time.

Facebook scares me.

FB kept telling me to add this person who I had worked with for a couple of years, and was sorta friends with, but hadn't talked to in about 5 years. When it was suggesting this, I had no friends on facebook who were even remotely in common with her, nothing about jobs or anything to tie me to this person. It just continued to tell me to add her for about 2 months straight.

I know she didn't have my name or anything about me in her profile or msgs with people, so I finally realized how facebook knew we were acquaintances. FB must have done some digging and saw our names listed under the staff page at the organization we both worked at (google or some other cached version of the page obviously). At the point this was happening, neither of us had worked there in years, but I can't think of any other way that FB could have known to suggest her as a friend.

I hope FB dies.

One easy way to to fix this would be if Facebook didn't include people who have not been logged in for a while (3 months? 6?) in the reminders. They don't have to be pronounced dead..just "inactive" until they log in again (if they ever do).

I believe it is possible to contact Facebook about this (although they'd probably only do something if you proved both the death and that you were family). It could be that they didn't have much family on Facebook, or that the family wanted to keep it there as a sort of memorial. That's more or less what my friend's family did when his brother died.
