I need another quick answer about split pots in hold em. I am holding 10, 7, and my oppenent was holding 10,3. The community cards were 10, King, King, Ace, 2. I claimed two pairs with Kings and 10's, he claimed two pairs also. Is this split, or do I win because of my kicker, even though a higher card is out there? THANKS

I believe this is a split pot, because you are sharing the comm cards to achieve the best 5-card hand. Your kicker is meaningless because it's the sixth card.

Split. You both have Kings and Ten's with A kicker.

EDIT : Uhh . . . how it T,3,J,K,K,A,2 two pair? If that's the board, you both have KK with A/J/T kicker, and it's still split.

What the hell? You do not have a pair of tens. You do not combine your cards with your opponents!

You each had a pair of Kings, followed by the Ace and Jack, and each of your 10's. It is a split pot.

I am not exactly sure, but there is a 2 on the community and his 7 & the other guys 3 kicker do beat that so I think the guy with the 7 wins. Isn't it the best 5 cards you can play? If the 2 was an 8 or hiigher then it would be a split I think.

Best 5 cards, however you can make them. Kickers are unimportant if 4 of your best 5 cards are in the community.

Really? Hrmm . . . I'm not sure the 4 rule is universal . . . I do know games where it goes down to 5th kicker, but I can't remember a hand in forever where it's gone past 4

Well, I guess I should clarify. It only works in this case where each player has the same high card in hand.

Just remember that you make the best 5 card hand out of 7 cards! That's the rule, plain and simple.

Opps sorry about that last post, I screwed up. And yes we stopped play for ATOT. Heres what it was.

My cards, 10, 7
His cards 10,3

Community

10, KING KING, ACE, 8

I believe it is a split pot because neither of our kickers were higher than the Ace.

Your best hand: 10, 10, K, K, A
His best hand: 10, 10, K, K, A

Therefore, the pot is split.

But in this case, the kicker is a shared card and high card so it's not really used.

Ok thanks guys thats what I thought. Its down to me and one other person and we are battleing to see who won. He ended up going home, but we left the table in the exact shape it was in. Heres the cards AGAIN, different hand.

Me - Queen, 5
Him - Queen, Jack

Community

King, 10, Ace, Jack, 3

I claimed split AGAIN, because the extra jack doesnt mean a damn thing when its a straight. He got pissed off and went home :( Its just really wierd that we keep having these split pot issues. Thanks again for the help.

Ok, humor me on this one. How was this hand played? Who was BB, and did he bet after he flopped top straight. If so, did you call or raise? How much compared to your stack? Did you have any draws besides the straight (flush draw perhaps)? I'm tyring to figure out how that hand got to the river.

I went all in because I was on the short stack and didnt think he had the queen, after I was flushed the straight. He had the queen, but claims he has won because of his jack. I told him that jack does not matter in a straight like this because of the jack in the community cards. Hes just pissed because every time I go all-in, I manage to fight back and win, or get split pots.
