Another pair (or in this case 2) of Crucial has bit the dust.

I originally bought a pair of the crucial ddr2 1000. It went bad not to long after getting it and had a new pair sent to me. This one wlast longer but also did go bad, and it looks like a high failure rate as crucial stopped selling those and sent me a pair of 1066 instead. That had worked good and later I bought a second pair for 4gb total on my machine once I went to vista. Over the last few days I've been getting odd BSOD crashes and I've finally traced it to being a memory failure.

I'm still going to RMA these 4 sticks, either to keep as backup or to sell for a couple bucks, but it seems like I need to find a new brand to plug in. Probably go with a 2x2gb module, and while most of my system is OC capable, so far I've keept all the settings at default as I'm more concerned with stability. What brands should I be looking at?

i see the egg has a pair of corsaid ddr2 1066 for $40 and a set of gskill ddr2 1000 for $45. How are those brands?

Using Corsair 2x2GB XMS2 DHX modules. Not even a hitch for the past 9 months. 800MHz modules though.

Corsair, G.Skill's are a good bet IMHO and from what I've read. I'm running 4 1Gb 1066 Dominators in my XP system (dual boot Vista 64 Ultimate). But lately since my main desktop has been on the fritz (crucial ballistix tracer 800's I suspect causing issues again...) I got a pair of G.Skill's slightly slower in timings and also basically dropped my OC (3.0Ghz E8400 @3.4) back to stock clock. Mem is at 806mhz and cpu @3040mhz. Leaving system up for 3-4 days of doing nothing to see if the BSOD happens, if so, then I break apart my raidset...(mirror). I may do that anyways to get another 640Gb HD in the system available as I image it as it is....so why mirror? ;-)

ya, until this last year or so I've never run into main memory problems but i'm getting it with these ballistix modules; of course prior to that i've used crucial/micron almost exclusively 😕

G.Skill, Mushkin, Corsair and the "non-high-performance" Crucial are what I've had the best success with over the years.

OCZ I avoid for compatibility issues (personally on two different pairs of sticks and multiple mobos).
