Just got my Opteron 165 yesterday.

Stepping: 0547 TPMW

Slapped it in my DFI NF4 Ultra-D
Put my TR Xp-90 with 1400RPM 92mm Fan
Added 2x1GB G.Skill

Before even installing windows, I cranked the FSB to 300, ram divider to 5/6. Installed windows at 2700Mhz both cores at default vcore.

I am running Prime95 while typing this post. Been priming for 2 hours now.

MBM shows 44c load, 46c PSU, 44c chipset right now. Was 28c idle (very cool).

I will post results tomorrow about Prime95 stability.

Anybody else get this stepping? I am seriously about to feint.

EDIT: I am stable at 305x9=2750 @1.41 vcore, 31c idle/45c load dual primed 10+ hours. I think I will leave it there until I get water cooling. My memtest86 test#5 errors came back, ughh. BTW: for memtest86, I use the built in one in my BIOS. I wonder if using the latest memtest86 will change anything...

I had to bump the vcore to 1.4 for complete prime95 on both cores and memtest stability. Temps still the same.

When I go water cooling (couple of weeks), I will really crank this baby up.

Currently running 300x9 at 1.4, 29c idle, 41c load, on TR xp-90

I'm putting together a system and am seriously considering the Opt 165. Trying to see which MB, Mem combination is the best overall performance bang for the buck. WOuld like MOBO to have built in Nic (prefer two) and Raid level 5 on board. I have serveral of my clients running the Asus A8N Deluxe with just single core. Thinking of just running a single 256 6800 graphics card at the moment.

Nice, I just installed my 0547 Opty 165 and it gets 2.6Ghz@1.4v. Think the chip can go higher, but my RAM(PC2700) or HT on my Neo 2 can't handle higher.

Damn, well i can do 2.7 Ghz with 1.40 volts, but this is watercooling with the IHS removed on a more expensive chip (and a good 3800+ at that). 0547TPMW seems like a very nice stepping, congrats.

Damn! I can boot into windows at 2800mhz @1.4v but my first core craps out at prime95. My 2nd core can keep chugging along forever. I wonder if this a heat issue. I read somewhere that they had different core stability and removed the IHS and got better results.

I might have to do this...

What are your temps like? It might not be heat-related. Have you tried increasing the voltage?

Nice work. It looks like week 0547 is a good batch. you might want to give it more vcore. 1.4v seems kind of low for 2.8ghz
As high as 1.55v should be safe. but wait till you get your new cooling system.
meantime keep burning in the cpu at lowest stable vcore.
let us know your progess.

watch out on vcore on the DFI Ultra D ..these mobos have been shown to overvolt with voltmeters..anywhere from 0.05-0.1+..?? from what you set not the bios reporting

ie 1.35*110%=1.485...my bios reports 1.46 but I may actually be getting 1.56v to the chip or more..I would not go to 1.55v on the DFI mobo

Well at 2800Mhz @1.4v the temps are the same as 2700. The wierd thing is, as soon as I bump voltages above 1.45, the temps dramatically jump. Idle goes to around 36-38c and load goes up to 58c.

2800Mhz at 1.45 made core0 prime95 stable for about 2 hours. Core1 has no problems at all, even at 1.4v.

For now I am leaving at 2700Mhz at 1.4v. Temps are good and it is stable. Too bad my first core is weak. My 2nd core is stable 2800Mhz at 1.4v.

Water cooling, here I come!

mine just arrived from Monarch today. same stepping :D
thing is, my mb/video card combo won't be here until the end of the week. after running P4's for the past 3 yrs. i'm coming back to AMD. i run watercooling so i'm crossing my fingers for a good o/c ;)

I can boot into windows at 2800mhz @1.4v

Geez....that's like having 2 x FX57's ;)

Yup, OEM.

Ok, now the wierd thing is that test#5 of memtest86 gives me about 20+ errors, even if I run my processors at default. I set my timings at default too. Anybody else have this problem?

Doesn't seem to affect stability. I have been doing encoding (TMPGEnc) and playing games for the past 2 days at 2700Mhz.

I have a DFI NF4 Ultra-D and 2x1GB G.SKill PC4000 using Samsung UCCC chips.

AFAIK, memtest is infallable. It is a defacto standard.

Better test that RAM one stick at a time.

Anyone else got this stepping? I'm very curious on this one. Please share your results. Thanks!

Yeah, definitely. I'd be interested to know if everyone else is getting an easy 2.7GHz, and whether anyone is getting any higher.

I've found it to be far from infallible. I've had RAM pass eight hours of Memtest and then crap out on Prime after two hours (CPU primed for eighteen hours separately, so it wasn't that).

It's the CPU's memory controllelr.

Ahhhh!!!! I can't believe it. I never installed that AMD dual core drivers. I installed it last night and now I am at 305x9=2750Mhz at 1.4v both core prime stable (6hours).

How can that happen? I also tweaked the "extra" memory settings in my DFI Bios and I got the memtest86 errors to go away.

Ok here is the thing. I am trying to push 310x9=2800Mhz at 1.4v. Even though if I prime both cores at the same time, CPU0 craps out after an hour or so, I can run each core at different times and they are stable (not concurrently). Think it could be a heat issue?

Dangit, I'm so close!

Why not try 1.425v ? BTW 310x9 = 2790.
