hmm..Interesting theorys on Tt. and akugami appreciate the detailed feedback I will definatley look into the parts you listed. And newegg didnt have 3500 venice core that was retail only the 3200, and btw The whole situation with putting aftermarket HS's and Fans on a cpu scares me shitless to be honest.

Even if your going to OC, you don't need an aftermarket HSF. I OC'd my winny to 2.4 (its max :( ) on the stock cooler.

I agree with akugami on the HD and the DVD burner. I dont' know if I agree with the mobo thing though. Personally, I find onboard sound to be fine on my DFI Ultra-d, and its just the normal cheap onboard chip except it's mounted on its own PCB to prevent electrical interference.

What I meant by the aftermarket HSF thing was that Newegg didnt have a retail version of the 3500 venice core they only had the OEM version which doesnt come with the stock AMD HSF

I've done retail and aftermarket on different builds. I think retail on A64 is a good idea because the cooler works very well, it's pretty easy to get on, it's fairly quiet, and with the retail package you get a full 3 year warranty on the CPU

Oh, gotcha ;)

If you don't mind waiting a few weeks, monarch has some Rev E 3500's on preorder

Also, you wouldnt' take much of a performance hit by going with a 3200 or 3000, and neither one would limit you. Plus you'd probably be able to rather easily OC them to 2.2, which is what a 3500 runs at.

I like that system a lot better than the first one

Is there some reason you're skipping the DVD burner now? You can get one for about $50.

That system has a lot more bang for the buck than your original system did.

Is there any particular reason yoru getting XP Pro? From what I've heard (and this might not be true) it basically adds a few features that most people will never used over the home version, but it costs $30-40 more.

Well, Fist YoyoYohowsDAjello, I got to thinking and ive come to the conclusion that I would never need a DVD burner. and CheesePoofs Ive read somewhere that the only way to get XP 64 is to have XP pro and get the 64-bit version thru Windows automatic update...but not to sure. lol now I want the 4800 X2 setup =) (sigh) but that will never happen. thanks for comments guys

You don't need XP pro to get XP 64. With xp Pro, you can get XP 64 for free, but it cancels out your xp pro CD-key, which is BAD. ;) You might want to at least get a dvd drive, many programs are beginning to use them. ANd in your position I would definately get the cheaper ram. IMO, there's no reason to get anything else.

Two things of note:

1) The Thermaltake case is not necessarily the best in value or in cooling, check out some of the Lian Li's and Antecs...

2) The Geil RAM is 3 8-4-4 2T latencies. The 2T is KILLER. In an Athlon 64 based system, you absolutely NEED 1T for best performance, it makes a SIGNIFICANT difference. You might want to check out some OCZ RAM as well.

I would definately want to switch from the Newcastle core to the Venice. If that's not available, the bare minimu should be a Winchester. Newcastles are built on the 130nm process, which eats up more power, creates more heat, and is a bit bulkier than the 90nm processors (Winchester, Venice). Venice also overclocks the best too.

Where does it say the ram is 2T? I've looked, and I can't find it listed. If it is 2T though, I wouldn't recomend it (after just recomending it).

Why not 4x512MB? It's much cheaper. 2x512 Corsair Value Select C2.5 is onlye $85, while the 2x512 G.SKILL C2 is about $100. The Venice core can run 4x512 @ 400Mhz, while the Winchester's memory controller can only run them @ 333Mhz.

That would work except there are no venice 3500's available in retail form.

But I also agree that you might want to consider just getting a gig of ram. Two gigs doesn't seem worth it to me yet.
