and here's how the govt got him:

Why did you copy and paste the exact same link that was already posted, and quoted directly above yours?

This guy was a raging idiot from the sounds of it.

I understand how something like this happens - You start something small, you build pieces here and there and suddenly it's huge and nearly impossible to fully extricate your personal info from.

But the thing I don't get is what kind of idiot starts something like this without having a fully separate infrastructure in place?

Viper GTS

My guess is you answered your own question.. it starts small with the person thinking it'll never go anywhere. Most people don't think they'll create a massive illegal thing that requires them to create a separate infrastructure. This guy was prob so wrapped up in his day to day that he never once thought of anything else... or he was a complete idiot. flip a coin.

KAT was a quality torrent site. Most sites have the attitude that goes something like 'yo bitch, be grateful that we even provide this service, so you'll take the format and features we give you and you'll like it.'

KAT let you sort by seeds, age and a few other parameters. Plus they always had the most detailed descriptions including technical info.

It's almost insulting to call it a pirate site. It was more like an attentive concierge service at a good hotel.

Sucks. Did not use that site but always feel bad for these owners getting ridiculous law action against them over crimes that don't physically hurt anyone and actually benefit more people than they don't. They are treated worse than murderers.

I mostly stopped torrenting since last December as they past a DMCA like law here a while back. Still need to look into setting up a VPN service on a vlan then put all the torrent and other private stuff on it, just not a priority. I have several TB of stuff I did not even watch yet. 😛

These torrent sites getting shut down really comes to show we need a decentralized communication network though. The internet by nature is just too centralized. Even torrents are too centralized as they rely on the trackers. I really don't get why stuff like Gnutella died, they were better in principle due to being decentralized.

You don't really get how torrents work, do you?

please PM me your address so I can steal all the stuff in your house and donate it to the poor. I wouldn't be physically hurting you and it will benefit tons of people (namely, me and my homies).

The only way this would be applicable is if you CLONED everything in his house to donate to the poor.

not really. it'd be more like red squirrel owns an apartment complex from which he can't collect rent from all the renters.

Look at their Top 10 lists. They're dated July 18.

its just a mirror site..it will never be updated but gives you a chance to grab all the software that you missed before it went down.

no support/community/nada ..it saddens me.
