I purchased the 80 gig Maxtor hard drive from Office Depot on December 10 that had a $30 rebate when purchased between November 23 and January 3. Just received an email that my rebate submission was invalid because it was not purchased on a valid date. Has anyone else had a problem with this one?

I'm sick of rebates being invalidated because they enter something wrong in the computer. I can't tell you how many times I've had to call and straighten something out. These companies are getting to be very unethical with rebates.

same problem here. The rebate form clearly states that the date I bought was within range, but rebates@parago.com says it was not. Does anyone have a phone number for them so you can talk directly with a person?

Just take your copies to the store. They will pay you on the spot. A couple months later paragoof will have had so many complaints they will review & correct all the rejects and end up sending your check.

I usually highlight everything that is relevant so it stands out...bright orange on white paper makes a pretty big impression and is pretty much irrefutable.

Samething, same drive, same store. I called...and it was taken care of. In fact, I just got the rebate.

call the number on the rebate, in most cases they will fix it on the spot, this is a way many of those rebate places work to make more moola, if you don't keep acurate records you get screwed, if they won't fix it take your copy of your reciept, upc, and mir to the store, most managers will either pay you on the spot or call corporate to get you a gift card(sometimes double the value of the rebate).

I recall driving to OD 3-4 seperate times to straighten out denial of a valid rebate of which the store manager agreed with me. I have avoided them since when I think about how much time I lost.

Either the rebate center staff are told to deny without reason or else they screw up now and then due to high volume (they are only h uman) or perhaps they were turned down at burger king for employment

I had the same problem from CopmUSA. Went to Rebates.com and looked it up and there was the same excuse to keep my $60.00 rebate. I just figured that i couldn't do anything about it and blew it off.
PS: CrapUSA doesn't get any of my business anymore. LOL
I guess i should have complained to them about the rebate but i didn't. Oh Well :-((((( next time i will know better.

Thanks for the useful advice. People like you contribute a lot to this forum.

For something to be a hot deal, it must be a deal that you can cash in on. If my post brought 50 responses that confirmed the same problem, the Maxtor rebate obviously wouldn't be a hot deal. As you can see, others have had the same problem. The next buyer who has the knowledge gained by this thread will know to make sure they are diligent and copy every piece of their rebate submission. In the end we are all be better off by sharing information and knowing to be careful with this supposed hot deal.

Be careful with the highlighter marker on register receipts, I highlighted a few things on a Fry's receipt for a rebate and the printed text disappeared!!

Finally someone that aggrees with me. but this will be locked as always, A hot deal isnt a hot deal if you get beat on a rebate.

How about a poll on how many of us read the Brag and moan!!!!

Last time i was in brag and moan it was about a mod buying the dell 19"lcd's for the best deal of the year like mid $400's, then trying to sell them in the for sale forums saying they were worth $700. Funny my posts got deleted and i got banned.
