I was originally going to buy the Crucial Ballistix 2GB deal for $50 AR, but recently I saw this deal on Hardforum.

So after rebate there you could get 4GB for about $60 shipped if those rebates apply to both purchases. So is there any reason to run a Q6600 with 2x2gb over 4x1. Is this going to affect overclocking/timings/whatever negatively?

4x1 GB certainly can be OCed, but it seems there's a lot more issues that come up when overclocking with 4 dimms.

I sold my 4x1 GB Corsair to get the Mushkin in sig because of an FSB brick wall when using 3+ dimms.

It's somewhat motherboard + RAM dependent as to whether you'll have trouble with 4 dimms or not.

In short, i'd say if you want 4 GB for dirt cheap, go for it.
But just don't expect sky-high overclocks with 4 dimms, as it may not happen.

Not sure what motherboard you're using but the P35 chipsets seem to handle 4x1gb with no drawbacks. My set up below overclocks the same with either 2 or 4 slots full.
