Another NForce4 sighting as part of a system build

Cyberpowerinc.com was 2 systems with NForce 4 boards advertised in the December 2004 PCMagazine. One is PCI express, non-SLI with a 6800GT 256meg starting at $1519 with an A64 3000 processor. The other is a NVidia nForce 4 Ultra SLI with dual 16x PCI-e (so does that mean each will have 16 pipes or do you still scale it down to 8 like most reviews have stated?) with 2 6800GT 256meg cards. Starting price is $2119 for an A64 3000.

Seeing as everything else is the same in these systems (actually the first system comes with a 200gig SATA drive compared to 160 on the second system), they are charging $600 more for an additional 6800GT and the SLI upgrade. Seeing as a 6800GT goes for $400, can we assume that that the SLI boards are going to be about $150-200 more than the non-SLI board?

edit: I could not find the systems on their site, I have only found them in the magazine ad.

edit, again: a little further research on their site does indicate you can configure an NForce 4 system. Not sure how long it will take to get it, though. And looking at the ad, they list a 3rd system with a 6600GT, non-SLI starting at $1065 for a A64 3000.

From what I have read, I am pretty sure it's 16 pipes splitted into two 8s.

Again, I read that SLI boards are going to be around $160-$250 range, whereas single PCI-E Ultra will go for around $150. Non-ultras will be low as $70.

Take these comments with a grain of salt.

by "pipes" you mean PCIe lanes, right? Cause yes, they will split PCIe lanes, but it won't have any impact on performance - in fact, there was no perceivable difference in performance of an SLI system even when running at PCIe x4. Expect it to be several generations before cards can even take full advantage of x8 connections, so you'll be fine for the life of the computer.

No difference compared to what? The performances of SLI I have seen have shown significant increase over a single card. I'm probably just confused to what you are trying to say.

He is just saying that much like 4xAGP vs 8x, that the performance difference is inconsequential with PCIe right now.
