Here is the question. I just reciently made a NAS box. All my computers are connected though wifi except my main system (see sig). Anyhow my main system has dual gigabit ethernet. 1 is connected to the router and the other is empty. On my Nas box, i was thinking of putting in a gigabit ethernet to lessen the bandwith to the router.

Can i do this on both my NAS box and main rig?

Ethernet 1 on both -> router
Ethernet 2 on both -> X-over cable and direct network connection

If i do this, will i get gigabit transfers on both my main system and my NAS box?

If you want to segment your traffic there are a couple of ways to do it. The easiest is to just manually assign IP's on the private LAN and disable file and printer sharing on the NIC that connects to the router. Don't use a gateway on the private interface so internet traffic, or any traffic outside of your network will hit the interface with the gateway intact.
