I have previously posted updates of this product on this forum and I have had some great responses from most people here. I am going to add this one as I am sure most of you are interested in a new choice of operating system.
I wrote an Email to the CEO (Michael Robertson) of Lindows and expressed my concern as to where he got the codes for this new OS. I asked a few questions about his moral and ethical situation.. (I was not rude in my line of questioning though).\
Here is the short and sharp Email I got back...
We have contributed code to open source initiatives, offered financial support of open source initiatives, and hired open source companies. I think we've been a good corporate citizen.
If all we did was simply use Linux and Wine, then we wouldn't sell many because people could just get it for free from net. Right?

A few days later I got another Email news letter with information about the LindowsOS release... here is that letter...
Lindows.com 2001 wrap-up
Dear Lindows.com Friend,
We thought you'd want to be kept informed of developments at Lindows.com(TM) as we close out 2001 and head into 2002.
First off, I have to apologize for not releasing our Sneak Preview as we talked about doing by the end of December. We're very close, but unfortunately an issue came up. (Here's some screenshots of LindowsOS(TM) in action.)
Microsoft Corporation filed a lawsuit against us claiming that people would confuse our product LindowsOS with their product Windows XP Professional/Home. We don't believe computer users will confuse our products in any way. (If you'd like to learn more about this situation, you can read a letter from me to Bill Gates of Microsoft here.)
Dealing with a lawsuit can be a distraction - especially for a small company - but we're committed to our goal and we won't allow this issue to derail us. We formed Lindows.com just 5 months ago with the intention of bringing choice to the computing world. We can't claim the lawsuit hasn't slowed us down, but it won't deter us. I'd ask for a bit extra patience during this time.
A few of you have asked how you can get more involved and so we have launched our Insider program. It's a way for those with the inclination to get more information and insights into our company and to give us their assistance as we forge ahead. We don't imagine this program is for everyone - just those who care passionately about what we're doing and want to give us all the assistance they can to help us succeed.
We still plan on selling the first version of LindowsOS when we release version 1.0 in the early part of 2002. It will be a modern, affordable and feature rich operating system. With your patience and support we can do it.
Here's to a great 2002 with lots of choice!

So that is the latest on the LindowsOS... I am really starting to get intrigued by this guy and his ideas... especially now that MS have taken a sharp interest in his plans!
Any comments...?
