thats kinda odd. I have made a steak in my toaster oven, and it was pretty good. I cheated though. I seared the two sides first, then i put it into the toaster oven at 450 for a couple minutes for medium rare.

Cooking a steak vertically just seems like a BAD idea. All of the juices are going to run out while it's cooking!

"vertically, keeping the heating elements on the side so all the fatty, greasy juices drip down to a tray and don't smoke."

But, but... you want those. Even a George Forman grill will dry out anything that you leave on too long. The last time I left a hamburger on too long, it wasn't just overcooked, it was cardboard.

It still wasn't done after 45 minutes? :Q

That sounds aweful. That would make for one hell of a dry steak.

But I want my fatty meat drippings to turn to smoke and circulate throughout the neighborhood to invoke jealously!

They should make regular toaster ovens that have the ability to give initial high bursts of heat to sear meat. Has anyone ever tried cooking a steak in a toaster oven?

Yeah, you can do it but I wouldn't recommend it. Just set it the toaster to "broil" and let it pre-heat first.

I have, its only good for the convection part of the cooking though. Seering needs much more heat. I had to do that on the stove top. (my oven was broken at the time).

I'd use a cast iron pan, sear both sides, then throw it into the oven at high heat on both sides, 3 minutes each. Only if I run out of propane though.

I saw that too. He said it tasted great but it took freaking forever to get it just to medium... THey took a break and left and came back later and it was finally done...
