Another "Is this system OK" Thread

Hey guys,

I'm looking to build a new system for my "office." It'll be used for gaming, Photoshop, and some Maya, with the emphesis on gaming. I do want a Shuttle XPC, and as far as I know the only model that offers PCI-Express is the P4-based one, and although I wanted to go for AMD, upgradeability is important to me, so I went this route.

Anyways, here are the specs I'm thinking about.

Shuttle XPC SB81P
Intel P4 3.4GHz (550)
Corsair 1GB (2x512MB) Value Select
XFX nVidia GeForce 6800 GT 256MB
Western Digital Raptor 74GB (I don't need much space)
Sony DVD-DL 16x DRU710A
Logitech Cordless MX Duo
Sony SDM-P234/B 23" LCD

Total cost right now is #3,105 from Newegg, of course the cheaper the better, if changes are necessary. If theres something that'll make a big impact that doesn't cost too much more, I'll think about that too.

Thanks in advance.

THat is a HUGE LCD. 19" or 20" won't do?

Other than that, looks ok to me. I'm not a pro on the Intel systems though, but I do believe you want some decent ram for that sytem. I'd cut back on the LCD and get some faster memory. I believe Intel P4's are really bandwidth depending unlike the A64. Maybe someone can can confirm this.

I've been using a Dell 2001FP (awesome monitor), and I've just always craved bigger. My original plan was to get a Dual G5 with the 30" Apple display, but I decided to cut back, since that would have costed $5K+. I thought the Sony was a good compromise since its $500 cheaper then Apple 23", and $1500 cheaper then the 30".

Well then, more power to ya. Are you keeping your Dell2001FP???

It looks like your set then.

Nope, I sold it a little while ago to make room and get some cash for the new system. I've never really been a fan of dual displays.
