You may want to consider getting a motherboard with one of the 2nd generation chipsets (K8T800 Pro or nForce3 250)

The Chaintech VNF3-250 is considered a great value.

Here is is on newegg. $92 shipped

Its only $69 plus shipping at mwave

It doesn't look like that optical drive can read DVDs, which might be useful but that depends on your needs.

The harddrive seems a little small, once you start getting into higher capacity, the price per gigabyte gets better and better, could be worth it upgrading if you have the money. Just looked at the HD and it only has a 1 year warranty. You should probably get a 3 year warranty to be safe, even the best companies have drives that can fail earlier.

The Power Supply that comes with that case is a little iffy, but you can try it.

The rest looks good to me.

Antec 3700 BQE or Sonata for the case/PSU. The 420 is a generic that is crap IMO. Motherboard ? I haven;t quite made my mind up on the second generation. But don;t get Powercolor for the video card. You can get a sapphire for almost the same money.

It's a value case manufacturer that sports a value PSU in the case, it may work great, or it may be terrible. A quality 350W PSU would do wonders, something from Antec or Enermax. I also say that you'll want a bigger hard drive, especially once you start loading games on the machine, a couple of gigs a game will fill that 40GB up quick! An 80GB WD Special Edition is about the same price as youl isted there.

okay am switching the video card to the Sapphire Radeon 9800 128mb 256bit. Also am going to switch to the second generation chipset that ath50 suggested. Will also switch harddrives to the WD special edition. Also switched to a Lite-On DVD RW drive. Will consider a different case. Anything else. Thank you all.

On the PSU, this thread helps a bit with WHY a good PSU is better than a generic one. Usually you can just look at the rating under the +12V, the cheaper ones usually have 14 or under there while quality PSUs have 18-20+

This is more important when you have video cards that use a bunch of juice or with a bunch of hard drives. The one that comes with that case can do a max of 13*12 = 156 max, which you may want to compare to the maximum draw of the video card and hard drives. And also the crappier PSU is likely to die on its own sooner.

even over all the other stuff you have switched, i cant stress enough the importance of having a quality power supply.. I'd definitely take some advice and get an Antec, Enermax, Vantec, etc.

The Sonata case is really nice because along with a quiet and well built case you also get a quality Antec PSU that retails for $69 on newegg. I would get it if you can spare the extra money and like the look of it.

Sonata
