There was one weekend that I had like 2 hours for three days.
It went like this:
FRI: work 8-4:30 leave work drive to Mountin View to see the Bridge School Benifit concert, party a little afterward, get home at 5:30 am
SAT: work 8-4:30 leave work to drive back to Mountin View and go to the David Bowie/Nine Inch Nails concert, again party a little more afterward, end up at home around 7:30
SUN: Arive at work groggy, smelly, and in no shape to actually do anything, 5 mins. late, stay there until 4:30 pm, leave work to a friends BBQ and around 8pm pass out on his couch.

Good thing I didnt have to work on Monday because I woke up around 6pm monday afternoon!

AHH what it was to be young:p

With or without the help of illegal drugs?

With illegal drugs: 5 days 6 hrs

Without drugs (except caffiene) 2 days 9 hrs

I am so glad I am off those drugs!

The longest up would be around 24 hours

I did spend 3 weeks with only a 3-4 hours sleep a night, glad when that was over.

About 2 days without any resting at all.

In Infantry Basic Training (a LONG time ago) I did about 16 weeks with only 3-4 hours sleep per day at most. I've got a picture from the end of that stretch where I look a little oriental (almond eyed)... funny, after months like that your eyes just seems to go to permanent half-open status.

I rememeber my second night after Basic I went out and drank about 10-12 beers with some friends... I was all aired out and a light weight.... I think I puked, but I don't remember because I sort of blacked out. My parents said I went to bed about 2am. The next morning I woke up at about 10am and dreaded getting out of bed.... to my surprize, although I had a slight headache, I actually felt BETTER than I had in quite a while! I have always attributed this to my body having needed solid sleep and that the long-term fatigue was bad and that I had simply gotten used to operating that way. At any rate, it was nice not to have to live with a well deserved hangover! :)

Without any er...additional help ;) about 48 hours. I'm NOT calling anyone a fibber, but I don't think it's possible to stay conscious more than 72-96 hours w/o any illegal stimulants...coffee only takes you so far, you know?

damn - you guys are machines!

careful though :D

I heard a great report on NPR a couple of weeks ago about the guy that broke the Guiness record for single sleepless stretch. It was like several weeks or something really insane. Of course, he had all kinds of institutional help - sleep clinics and doctors and such.

Now, it had long been shown and proven that extended sleep deprivation causes psychological changes and halucinations, but this guy has led some doctors to believe that, if the stretch is long enough, that the damage may be permanent. This guy's personality never recovered! He lost his job, his wife and kids left him and now he lives alone sweeping floors or something somewhere.
He got the record, but it totally ruined his life.
Wild.

;P
I dated a girl in college who stayed up for 5 days in one stretch - then she slept for 24 straight hours. 24 hours. Awesome; she was my hero for that.

I was up for 5 days straight and the only drug I had was beer. I was over 21 at the time so it was legal. By the third day I didn't need to drink much to feel good. Once I went to sleep I was screwed because I was effectively down for the count for two days.

Myself, about 3 days on a couple of occasions. I knew a guy that would drive his van from Texas to Florida, back to Texas and on to California returning to Texas and work in one stretch. He did this a couple of times a month and was making excellent money with his "second job". BTW, this was during the '70s.

staying up for 5 days drinking beer ?????? I find that VERY hard to believe because beer is a downer and will put you out if you keep drinking . After a day or so I dont think anybody could keep standing much less stay awake if they were drinking beer all that time. Im not saying you didnt do it all Im saying is that its VERY hard to believe.

5 days straight...finishing my InfoHell project (anybody who's gone through the Journalism School a the University of Oregon knows that I'm talking about this course). I think I slept about a TOTAL of 10 hours in 2 weeks...it sucked.

Slept for about 24 hours after turning that thing in. PM me if you want the URL for the project.

I did a little over 4 days and crashed hard a few moments to the 5th. No "stims" other than cola and coffee. I'm a night person and just kept the strech going since during the day light hours I stayed active. Nowadys I pull 32 easy: Wake up at 5p on Sunday, stay up all night, go to work on Monday, get home and cant seem to sleep till around 12.

6 days once during finals.... studying for an accounting exam mostly... on the sixth day after the final I planned to stay up for a couple more days to study for my next exam.... but my SHADOW told me I should consider sleeping. I blinked a few times... and my shadow laughed at me... at that point I decided I should go to sleep.;)
