(Reuters) - A seven-year-old boy was shot to death by his father on Saturday in the parking lot of a gun store in western Pennsylvania in an apparent accident, state police told Reuters.

Folks like this who are so careless with firearms are ruining it for responsible owners of firearms. More ammo for the ban all guns crowd.

One reason I avoid shooting ranges, the shit I have seen idiots do pretty much keeps me away from them. Too many fools with guns who put others in danger and their own families in danger.

Rule #1 never ASSUME a gun is unloaded, always assume it is loaded.
Rule #2 NEVER point the barrel of a firearm (loaded or unloaded) at anyone or anything you do not intend to shoot.

If you follow those two basic rules at all times it becomes second nature and you would treat the gun the same regardless if it is loaded or unloaded and prevent another unnecessary death or injury.

That's a lot of false equivalency. You'll notice in the things you've posted people kill themselves with their own choices. Texting while driving being an exception and see what happens if you kill another person because you are carelessly operating a motor vehicle.

If you accidentally shoot ANYONE, especially in a situation in which you have no intentions whatsoever to fire the weapon, you are an ignorant gun owner. Period.

I have found the vast majority of rednecks I know are quite safe with guns. They grew up with them and they know how to safely handle them. Hell, I would be $50 that a rednecks 10 year old son can handle a rifle better than you can.

Suicides by gun are also not reported. People dying of HIV/AIDS isn't reported. People willingly spreading it to others, that's reported.

It made the news because a child was needlessly killed due to the careless actions of another person. The boy's father. If the dad ran over him with the car it would have been in the news as well. I'm guessing there's a reson you know about that car accident and it probably wasn't because you were in it.

When someone dies from lung cancer it is generally their own doing. Hell, when someone accidentally shoots themselves it is usually not very newsworthy. When you accidentally kill a child, especially your own child, its just a tad bit different then slowly killing yourself over decades smoking.
