Correct me if I'm wrong, in most cases, you can only hunt deers with a shotgun, and you do aim for their heart and lungs. Which is about the height of the hunter's belly no? What a terrible way to go eh?

I guess in less populated area you can hunt deers with a rifle depending on the local laws.

Colorado you can hunt with.

rifles
bows
blackpower
and i think in some cases, pistols but not sure have to look it up.

about the only thing that is illegal to hunt with are crossbows.

Yeah its about that way here, I don't think pistols...at least they definately don't have their own season. Who'd want to hunt with a pistol instead of a rifle though?

I'd actually never even heard of anyone hunting a deer with a shotgun until this thread.

arkansas big game rules:
(modern guns)
Nov. 1?30 (closes earlier if quota is reached) in zones 1 and 2. Dec. 11?
19 (closes earlier if quota is reached) in zone 5. Arkansas lands lying east of the Mississippi
River are closed. Dec. 4?19 (closes earlier if quota is reached) in zone 5A. Arkansas
lands lying east of the Mississippi River and zones 3, 4, 6 and 7 are closed.

me either, i would think it almost impossible. at the best very very difficult. it can be difficult to find a deer in an open field thats still long enough to get a clean rifle shot; nevermind sneaking up on one with a shotgun hoping it does see/smell or hear you.

Well..unless you have a perch in a tree (or a portable stand) and want to use a shotgun...but ive never heard of anyone doing it; most of the hunters here *eat* the meat; and wouldnt want to pick through it to get the shot out from all over it.

Not to laugh, but I always chuckle when I think of my dad and brother out hunting.. I would not be surprised in the least to have them come back form a trip and findin one of them had winged the other...

stuff like this never surprises me.

I go love to hunt (i use a bow though). Usually i hunt on private property that a either friends or family own. Well 2 years ago i was going with a buddy at a local preserve. we camped out over night so we made sure to get the spot we wanted.

There was about 15-20 other guys there. They were all drinking (heavy) all night long. it wouldn't surprise me if if these guys did the same thing.

That was my thought as well. And if you're that close you'd probably have better luck with a bow. But I really don't know a lot about hunting, I just have a few friends who like to go.
