what is it about some people? why can't they keep it in their pants?
how can someone fire a gun at something and not know FOR SURE that it is a deer?

damn, this guy was 40 years old and his hunting buddy shot him in the chest. :|

Way to jump to conclusions there

Sadly this isn't new. It seems like the last several deer seasons (in MI) someone has been killed by a hunting buddy.

Yea, because we really know all the circumstances surrounding it.
no need to roll the eyes.

i just heard it on the TV. it didn't say whether he was wearing blaze orange or not, BUT shouldn't you know what you are shooting at before you shoot regardless?

What conclusions? moshquerade, merely pointed out a fact that some guy shot another 40 year old guy. it's not like she said, some dumbfvck retardedly shot his 40 year old hunting buddy for no reason...

Seems the only conclusion so far that mosh has jumped to is the notion that it was an accident.

The chest is a little high to be aiming for a deer.

shooting before u have a clear shot? wtf? u should only be that trigger happy if the deer is hunting u back....

Absolutely.

Unfortunately it happens all the time, for whatever reason.

My guess would be that the excitement clouds their thinking, proper ID of your target is one of the fundamental rules of gun safety.

Correct me if I'm wrong, in most cases, you can only hunt deers with a shotgun, and you do aim for their heart and lungs. Which is about the height of the hunter's belly no? What a terrible way to go eh?

I guess in less populated area you can hunt deers with a rifle depending on the local laws.

I remember about 7-8 years ago there was a murder trial in Houghton, MI (the U.P. as whole only has a few murders a year). A guy was accused of shooting his wife (well, murdering vs accidental). He claimed he thought she was a deer. ON THE FRONT PORCH OF THEIR HOME!!!!! I don't think the defense got very far with that argument.

Not if the deer has a rifle. You better shoot first and ask questions later.

Completely depends on local law. On the west coast (where I'm from) rifles are the norm, east coast it seems shotguns are the only option.

As for the height of the shot, there's simply too many variables to assume it's murder purely on that. On flat ground at close range? Maybe it's a factor. In a real hunting situation? Meaningless.

I'd love to hunt with a rifle, it seems like you don't need a lot of skill to hunt with a shotgun. unless, I guess if you're hunting a turkey, trying to aim for head with a shotgun.

is there a link to the news story? where did this happen?

i wouldn't compare it to a car accident.

the story just broke so it's not up on my local newsite. i will post it when it becomes available.

We do not have enough information to determine that it was, or WASN'T an accident. And if it is an accident, there's no indication on the cause of the accident.

From my statement above you can have the following cases:
Friend A was racing his car and ran into friend B watching.
Friend A was driving down the road and ran head on into friend B.
Friend A and Friend B had an argument and friend A ran over friend B when he left a bar.
Friend A and friend B were working on a Jackass style stunt.

Without more information, the OP was worthless.

dude, take a fifthdegree chill pill. i am just sharing what i heard. i didn't ask to be on friggin trial.

the news report led me to believe it was an accident, not intentional, and the guy shot his friend because he thought he was a deer.

if you feel this post is worthless don't bother with it.

Guys, guys, obviously I need to roll out the Jump To Conclusions Mat so we can settle this once and for all.

I thought it was common practice to LOOK FOR A DEER's HEAD then to take aim. That guy's face must be pretty fawn-ish :frown:
