Newbie alert. I've been out of the hardware picture for a couple of years, so I figured I'd ask before I buy.

Anyway, here it is:

Intel P4 somewhere around a 2.8Ghz (plus or minus what budget dictates) OC'ed to whatever it can squeeze
Alpha PAL8942 P4 Socket-478 Heatsink Kit
Antec 80mm trilight LED Fan
Abit IS7 P4 Springdale Motherboard
Mushkin 1GB Level I PC3200 Dual Pack DDR SDRAM
ATI RADEON 9800 Pro 128MB DDR
Seagate Barracuda V 120GB SATA
Coolermaster ATC-210 DX1 Aluminum Chassis (w/black cover)
Enermax 430W ATX 2.03 Power Supply w/Fan Control

That's the basics. Would I be okay if I dropped the power supply to an Antec TruePower 330W? I'll eventually be adding a high-end audio card for my GigaStudio/ProLogic work along with a Pioneer DVD drive, firewire stuff, but probably nothing more than that. I'll be running some intensive programs, but probably not adding more burners (only external if I ever needed one), hard drives, etc. to suck up the electricity.

I also may have about 3 weeks before placing the order, so should I look out for any releases?

Thanks in advance.

Who doesnt! Besides if you don't OC i hear those case lights give ya a 5% performance boost.

But actually ya gave a little too much info there. If i were you i would go with the Enermax430w. That coolermaster case is VERY nice.

What programs will you be running? What Sound card you looking at? Something like a Aud2? Has firewire built in :D. I have a Pionee DVR-A05 DVD-RW and i like it alot it's s great drive they have a A06 out now thats a faster drive, it's pretty good.

Cooling looks like a good choice, if i were you i'd go with soemthing like a 2.6Ghz and you could probably get it to 3Ghz of you know what to do. GL!

If ya have the money WD Raptors in RAID 0 make for a nice speedy HD if space isn't an issue (isn't for me).

Nah, I'm getting more into something for pro sound like an RME Hammerfall, or something along that line. Basically I'll be running a whole MIDI interface through a network. But I do have an old Live! in one of my desktops. Its realtime reverb can sometimes be preferable to even something like Acoustic Mirror's impulses.
