Another Homerun for Palin!

Hehe, Palin is a non-entity in terms of actual substance, she can regurgitate talking points she's been trained to regurgitate. Actually that makes her similar to an average Republican politician.

It is a very very common term in politics

I would add to this statement, it is a very very common term in national/Washington Politics not local state or city government.

So how is it that nearly everyone here knows it and she doesn't?

GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?

PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.
I want to personally thank the OP. This thread delivers!

OMG I see what you did. You replaced Palin's name with Obama's, and replaced Republican with Democrat!

So fresh, so original, just like McCain/Palin. Bravo!

Because we hang out on forums like P&N and are news junkies?

(I usually lurk here and refrain from replying due to the constant flame wars.)

I wouldn't call it a home run, but she did a very good job and will gain confidence as she does more of these. Gibson was certainly not throwing softballs, he was trying to get her in a "gotcha".

Carefully scripted answers. Listen to the question, pick the closest talking point from this past week's cram session, stay on script. If interviewer tries to force extended answer, repeat script ad infinitum (or is that ad nauseum?). Not that much different than her teleprompter standups with Senator McCain except for Charlie Gibson delivering lead-in to the script.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the governor of a state/candidate for VP of the United States should know as much about politics as an ATPN member.

She's from outside the beltway silly ......

No person with even a passing interest in US foreign policy could not know what the Bush Doctrine is. It has been the guiding principle for US foreign policy for almost a decade. Inside the beltway, outside the beltway, as someone else said it has 800,000 hits on google.

There is simply no excuse. She has 'foreign policy experience', she just doesn't happen to know the dominant US doctrine for foreign policy. You can't be serious.

You are talking about people that are in the actual field doing the dirty work of local and state government. I doubt both mayors or governors have the kind of time we do to keep up with all this stuff.

No it hasn't. Bush for the most part dropped most of the Bush Doctrine in his second term in practice.

I know exactly who I'm talking about, and they sure as shit do. I'll repeat: it is simply unacceptable for the governor of a state to not have even heard of the guiding principle of US foreign policy. It is doubly so if that governor is trying to talk about how they have foreign policy experience.

It's not like this is some obscure fact that only policy wonks would know, it's the basis for the US' dealings with THE ENTIRE WORLD.

LOL What's the Bush droctine ?

she's so clueless
Let's be honest here, how many people on here could have defined the "Bush Doctrine" prior to this interview??

It is not even written out. It is just a phrase given to a collection of Bush foreign policy ideas. Even Charlie couldn't completely define it when he said "The Bush doctrine as I understand it"

It was certainly not a great answer by her though.

You are confusing Governors with the President my friend. Governors damn sure do not have the time to keep up with all the foreign policy decisions of the Federal Government. You don't have to be condescending just because we disagree on this point.

Edit: Fixed typo

That Bush doctrine question would have thrown me too. I'm not sure that is an official term with a hard and narrow definition.

It is and it does.

It states that it is the policy of the US to treat nations that harbor terrorists groups as terrorist themselves, including the use of preemptive war.

It is probably because you have Sooner in your name 😛.

<--- OSU Alum 😉

She isn't just some governor, she is running to be the VP and they have tried talking up her foreign affairs policy. She should've at least been briefed about this before the interview.
