when i restore an image of my hard drive, does it act like the hard drive is formatted and write over the old data wiping out everything? TIA

NEW QUESTION: i just made a ghost image of my hard drive...my hard drive reported 399MB space used...the image is 312MB...is that about right? or is missing files?

I'm pretty sure it does, because before you begin the process, it warns you that data will be overwrited or erased when doing the copying process. I could be wrong, so you might want to wait for an answer from someone who use the program a lot.

Ghost has a data integrity checking technique built in. It will tell you if the image that was made is the same as the original. Check your image once it's completed. You'll find the prompt it the menu.

I would imagine the the space discrepancy is down to the slack space on the hard drive or other such usage that wouldn't necessarily be included on the image file.
