Another football player has died this year. He had his inhaler in his hands when he died. I guess he struggled with asthma
The medical examiner refuses to comment whether heat played a roll in his death or what his medical history is.
In any event... I believe this is the 4th player to die this spring. Someone told me this morning that high school player died - I doubt thats the only high school player to die. But if so thats 4 players this year.
Really calling off practice in the heat is not an option - and schools can not just buy indoor practice facilities. My suggestion would be longer/more breaks and more water.
It's as simple as that. 20 some years ago coaches would go whole practices with out water breaks - and players who took them were considered sissies. Now, I'd say if you're not taking water - you're just plain foolish.
Perhaps this will shed some more light on the situation - although it is a great tradgedy to keep losing athletes like this.
