And into the center of controversy. While it's done well so far in the ratings, the CBS sitcom "Mike & Molly," about a couple who meet at an Overeaters Anonymous group, has drawn complaints for its abundance of fat jokes. It's also drawn cries from some viewers who aren't comfortable watching intimacy between two plus-sized actors

I can relate. Definitely not too keen on seeing two people, best described as 'amorphous blobs' be any more intimate than a handshake and peck on the cheek.

"The media has such a portrayal of what you are supposed to look like in this world, and it's not realistic," the actress said. "It's a show that's showing people, 'Hey, you look like us, and it's OK.' "

While there are a number of shows that have actors&actresses with dangerously low body weight, modeling reality shows, for example, portraying the opposite end of the spectrum is just as bad. It is not okay to demand everyone be a size 0 to be attractive and just as bad to portray someone with a 55in waist line as 'OK'.

It is really not that difficult to lose weight. Step 1: stop eating at McDs. Step 2: Move more.

This acceptance of obesity galls me almost as much as models starving themselves to fit into some idiotic designer's sweat shop made clothing. Shows like The Biggest Loser that feature hopeful messages and show people how to lose weight and exercise in a healthy manner are far better than shows that portray two morbidly obese people stuffing themselves with food. Honestly, do you want to be known for 'that sitcom where you stuffed your face with Burger King' for 45minutes?

Yeesh, obesity is a VERY serious problem for the US. I'm all for individual rights, and you can do whatever you wish to your body, regardless of how idiotic or unhealthy it is. But when you portray your dangerous and unhealthy life style as perfectly fine, its no longer just about you.

Get off your couch, stop ordering the take out from your phone, turn off the TV, and take a walk around the block. That'll be a good start.

The sad thing was I was thinking of this exact show when I read the title. I don't watch the show, just seen the commercials for it.

It's hard to find time to exercise when you are so busy taking vacations. Some luxury resorts don't even have private exercise rooms! It's hell!

I'm sure us taxpayers would be more than able to build a 20,000 square foot gym at Camp David for the POTUS family.

We need to stop this fat-acceptance BS before it takes any sort of foot-hold.

I always kind of laughed that tons of effort was expended confronting eating disorders like anorexia when it was obvious that the more widespread problem was the one going in the opposite direction.

I didn't realize there were this many Fat Nazi's on this board....

Be sure to wear your hate with pride...go to schools and tell fat kids to just kill themselves or better yet...gather them up, put them into a concentration camp...throw them into a fire and use that burning fat to power your electric cars.

This is nothing. This conversation has been civil so far. There's lots of intolerance among those that think they are tolerant.

Progressives minds are easily swayed and they think that everyone else is like them. To think that a show with overweight main characters will lead to more overweight people, or condoning of overweight people is absurd to most of us. The majority of us have enough common sense to not watch shows that we don't enjoy. But progressives think most everyone will be so enthralled with this show that they'll commence to packing on the pounds.

Their mission is to convince us otherwise - for our own good of course, and by any means deemed appropriate.

This course will change in a few weeks. I, for one, know I can hold out until then.

Will and Grace didn't turn me gay, I doubt a show full of fatties will make me fat.

OP, now you know how some feel when they see TV shows glorifying unsafe sexual practices (unprotected sex with strangers, multiple partners, street prostitution, etc.).

Be sure to wear your hate with pride...go to schools and tell fat kids to just kill themselves or better yet...gather them up, put them into a concentration camp...throw them into a fire and use that burning fat to power your electric cars.
Bad habits like obesity, smoking, unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, etc. cannot be tolerated in our society. As we assume the financial healthcare burdens of our society via social welfare legislation, we must also enforce rules to make our society healthier in general to reduce cost. This is why we need a national sales tax on unhealthy food, drinks, etc. The population must pay for the services that they desire, what better way to make them pay than by taxing the habits that make them unhealthy?

State governments (as Feds should have no say in this) should also force public school students to exercise for about 30 minutes each day (elementary, high-school and college) and only serve healthy vegetables and lean-meat in the cafeteria with no access to sugary drinks or junk food on campus.

As long as we are coerced into (1) buying health insurance, (2) paying for Medicaid, these measures should be in place.

For the record, I am against a nanny state, but if I am forced to subsidize the healthcare of others, I want them to remain as healthy as possible.

Does everything deserve tolerance? Why should we be tolerant toward those advocating an unhealthy lifestyle? Would I be considered intolerant if I think a show like Jersey Shore is ridiculous and idiotic? What about a show like Intervention? Am I just being intolerant of those who are addicted to crack or alcohol?

Progressives minds are easily swayed and they think that everyone else is like them. Who are you calling a progressive? I consider that a personal attack.

You can say what you want, but it's pretty obvious that shows like this are trying to bring acceptance to being overweight. I doubt it's going to cause people to start overeating, but the more you tell people that it's ok to be fat, and fat people are beautiful and healthy, the less likely overweight people as a group are going to care about getting in shape.

Their mission is to convince us otherwise - for our own good of course, and by any means deemed appropriate.

I... what? Did you really call me a progressive? :hmm:

It's the freedom to do as you're told, by people that know what's best for you.

Have to admit though - as much as I like both Billy Gardell and Melissa McCarthy, I want them to wear as many clothes as possible short of heat stroke.

i'm not fat i ain't paying a fat tax on coke. let the fatties pay the fat tax.

the other problem is that we don't really have a clue what's healthy and what's not. 20 years ago you'd have fat taxed butter and had nothing on trans-fat laden margarine. guess which is worse for you?

You hit upon an important point.
Why do people watch shows that offend them? If you don't like the show/movie. Don't watch it. Problem solved. Don't force your likes and dislikes on others and tell them to change for you. You need to change the farking channel.

Looks like we found a fatty.

I'd wager money that more than half of the people calling names like fatty and saying it's gross ect, are fat themselves.
But I keep forgetting this is the internet and with no faces or bodies, we are all perfect examples of the human form.

You're probably right but I'm no fatty. I don't eat particularly well but I do run ~20 miles per week. I was a little overweight for about a year but I knew it wasn't ok and wasn't trying to convince people that there's nothing wrong with being fat. I started running again and....shocker.....I lost weight!
