But hopefully you don't bid on auctions that clearly state "United States only".

What's you ebay ID? I have an address in Canada I can ship to (evn though I live in the States). Hopefully, this will make your rant a little more worthwhile.

Well, I noticed that a lot of the sellers will ship to Canada when they say "US only" if you email them and ask BEFORE I bid. But no.. I wont bid unless they tell me its ok, and tell me how much it will cost in shipping before hand.

yeah but the seller doesnt have to pay those.. the buyer does when they get it. And.. The only thing i could say about it is that you cant insure it if you send it regular post.

That's true, but could be headaches associated with that, especially if they are more than what the buyer expected. I think this was on our own FS/FT forums - there was some issues a few years ago I think where the buyer paid a hefty sum for the duties and turned around and tried to get the buyer to refund him some of the price due to the duties or something, buyer refused to since it's "not his problem" and the seller screamed troll or something. Then you also have the delay at customs so a package that might normally take a week to get there might get delayed for 2-3 weeks. That's more headache than I care to endure, having a buyer email me daily wondering where his package was. I dealt once with a Canadian guy and that went smoothly but I avoid non-US transactions at all costs.

Thats a good 'con' argument. But if its worded well in the auction about them being responsible for customs/duties beyond the sellers control I would have no argument. I also tend not to buy anymore more than $40 from US ebayers otherwise I do get sacked with duties that are astronomical. I also am aware that it does take up to 3 weeks for items to be received. Again, if all this is in the auction than most ppl with common sense would be ok with it.

Unfortunately, the internet is being run rampant with morons, who don't know how to read anything. It's like this quiz my 8th grade social studies teacher gave us. On the top were "DIRECTIONS: Read everything before doing anything" the very last question said. "Now that you havent answered any questions put your name on the top of this paper and turn it in" :)

I'll tell you whats wrong with that.

I work during the hours my local post office is open. I can not make it to the post office unless I take a 1/2 day vacation to do so.

The way I get around this is I ship USPS through my local Hyvee postal station/drop off location. They are open until 9 pm at night which is very nice and convenient.

However, they do not ship out of the US.

So, if you want something shipped to Canada, you dont buy it from me because I don't have the means or time to go to the post office to ship it.

The only time I did ship something to Canada was through FedEx. I filled out the export form or whatever, and I asked what I should put down for value. He said "Just put gift, so they don't charge taxes".

Fixed your post.

Aside from that, I'm like TwinkleToes77 and will only bid on stuff after asking if they'd be willing to send it a few hundred klicks north of where their border stops. Most are cool with it, though I have had the odd one freak out on me.

I wouldn't say that. Just Ebayers in general.

I'm guessing Canadians bid on them anyway figuring that once you figure out that shipping to Canada is no more difficult than shipping to the US, you'll change your mind. Canadians simply figure that the Americans that say US only are just too stupid or lazy to be bothered with figuring out something so simple.
p.s. they pay for shipping.

Or, I don't want to go to the other side of town to ship something, and fill out a stupid form. I'm guessing the Canadians who bid on auctions that clearly state US only, and don't even ask if its OK, are too stupid to comprehend English.

I don't ship to Canada just because I have to step foot into a post office and do some paperwork. I mark it as gift as instructed and usually the person e-mails me back and demands I pay the duty on the package since I filled out the form wrong. Too much hassle. So far I am 1 for 3 shipping to Canada, the one victory being someone in the FS/FT.

Just because the buyer is from Canada doesn't mean you have to ship to Canada. Sometimes my friends and I get items shipped to the border and we pick it up. Most Canadians do live by the border y'know.
