You might remember that game 'Dungeons' that tried and failed miserably. I actually never played it but the reviews were enough to keep me from it.

This seems like it could be promising.

<3 DKII, i spent half a day trying to get it to work back when i had my i7 920 and 5850, it would not work with an AMD card. Nvidia people should have more luck, worked a charm on my intel 4500MHD on the laptop though

Just thinking about DKII i suppose i can run it using the 2600k's built in graphics... that beats the hell out of hooking the laptop up to the keyboard/screen etc etc! Ima play some DKII when i get back home!!

Oh as for other DK style games my hopes arent high after what "dungeons" brought to the table, game was a sack of crap.

Yea, it boggles my mind how no good games similar to dungeon keeper have come out in all these years. Would love to see this one be good.

i belive it will work if you shut all hardware acceleration off (video card) its a ATI thing.. pain in the butt but it will work. as mentioned GOG has it and it does work on win7 and ATI.

Let me know if it works with the built in 2600K graphics, I'm curious.

It was a bit crashy last time I played it.

Evil Genius came out. It was good.
Not GREAT, you understand, but good enough.
I could never get the hang of the world map thing.. sending people in for this and that. the base building, yes.. the world map and sending people in no.. ran out of cash all the time.

Me too, but I always had fun in the process.

I never saw a game require that much attention to detail with regards to your immediate domain, and be so vague & indirect dealing with stuff outside your domain. Plenty of Empire games let you send people out for missions but their controls were always a little more clear, and they also didnt require micro-managing your towns at the same time.

Nah unfortunately it dosent ever work properly on ATI. Even buggering around with the unofficial 1.8 patch never changed anything.

If i remember correctly heres what happens:

- With hardware acceleration you dont see anything except the control bar at the bottom, the map screen is completely blank

- Without hardware acceleration it works but it will crash when a tooltip is clicked on, if you dont click on any tooltips it will crash on its own anyway after a while.

Will do.

EDIT: Didnt work unfortunately. Same crash problem using software mode and hardware mode dosent show the map. Same as the 5850. I disabled the 5850 in device manager to be absolutely sure it was using the onboard, no joy.

Man, I'm pro at Evil Genius. Here's what you do:

1: Don't rush to do as many missions as you can. The game triggers higher difficulty for your base based on how much evil you do. Only do the required in the journal for a while.

2: Kidnap the guard asap and interogate him so you can get guards. Send 3 groups of 4 guards out to steal all in different colored regions. You'll be bringing in about 10,000 a minute. Combat minions make more money than science and social minions.

3: Now start building your base. You kind of have to build a little bit to get things started before hand... but delete them and start over once you have more rooms unlocked. Now you are able to stategically design your base that the original tutorial stuff is done.

4: google 'uber trap'. It's free money and you'll never have to send minions out to steal again.

Hey folks, lead designer on WFTO here. To answer the OP: Yes, we're following the basic DK formula and making improvements across the board. We didn't like Dungeons either ;)

As mentioned in our latest news post, we are releasing a very small demo next week on our site, so be sure to check it out!

I'd also be happy to answer any other questions you guys might have about the project. Also: very short video that some of you may not have seen.

I used to do it just for fun as zoomed in as possible. Turned to wifey and said "We should try". That never worked out LOL.
Smacking the imps..... Couldnt you drop them into a pool (read kill them) to gain more power?

Have you considered using some of the aspects of 'Evil Genius'? Such as the creature tagging system? You could tag enemies for kill, psychological weakening, capture... etc. I think a variation of that would be nice in my opinion. I think that was a huge step forward for this kind of game. The way traps are connected to triggers in that game was a nice upgrade as well. Actually, after revisiting Dungeon Keeper 2 again, I think Evil Genius has a better system over everything done in DK. Hopefully you guys have played that game.

I cant wait to see more BTW!

Sorry for being slightly slow. Preparing for Kickstarter is consuming my life right now >.>

Who are you? Whats your pedigree?

Me personally? I have no professional experience, but I've been exposed to the industry my entire life (which as of right now, is 20 years and 8 days); my Dad has been in the industry for 30+ years (specifically in design), and my Aunt and older Brother both work in the industry too. I've done community projects for various games (mainly Gears of War) and design work for mods over the past few years, but nothing too serious. I'm just generally very, very into the industry and absolutely adore Dungeon Keeper.

The team as a whole is generally on the same level, with a few who also work freelance in their field and one or two who have worked on commercial projects in the past - but we are all very, very passionate about this game and have received quite a lot of outside guidance from various people, including a few industry veterans.

I need to be able to slap my minions. :colbert:

Done. However it won't be in the demo next week :(

Regular searches for our name. I like to keep in touch with people interested in the project.

We haven't discussed this much publicly as of yet, but I will say is that there is a much wider variety of things you can do when it comes to 'recycling' units.

Just curious. Is this game sufficiently different from Dungeon Keeper (and honestly I hope it isn't) to avoid getting into trouble with EA, who I believe still owns the IP? Or has some legal arrangement been made?
