Just put a new Chaintech board in with just vid card, ram and a Duron. Hit the switch and nothing, no fans, no beeps just silence. Plugged the old board in and it starts so no problem with supply or switch. Besides the obvious , bad board, what else would cause this? Trying to find out if the manual might even have a typo on the power switch connection.
Any and all help appreciated.

Does the i/o plate match the new board? No fingers on the plate shorting out? Will the board work on the bench (out of the case)? Are the front panel connector pins labled on the mb?

What's the PS watt? Maybe it's just not good enough. Or it could be the CPU itself. Try clearing the bios and seeing if that fixes it?

No beeps usually means either motherboard is dead, cpu is fried, or powersupply is dead/insufficient.

Oh, Jack is right... could be a short too if you don't have it installed properly in the case. Perhaps take it out of the case and put it ontop of the motherboard cardboard box that came with it.

Just a hunch... try another video card (preferably a PCI card if you have one).

Its not time to start swapping parts yet.

As suggested, trying taking out the motherboard from the case, and power it while on a non-conductive surface. Also check your manual for the jumper setting to "Clear CMOS" and make sure its not set on clearing the CMOS.

Even if the CPU was dead the motherboard would get power along with all the other components. It is possible for the PSU to dead/not enough and/or motherboard is dead. Shorts with touching a case part or screw can keep a motherboard from booting and/or fry the motherboard all together.
