Is there a way to configure the DF text client to run in the background where the casual viewer would never know (i.e., nothing on the desktop or on the lower toolbar), or would have to dig to find it?

it can be run as a service on nt/w2k/xp , but i haven't tried that yet

the easiest way to hide it is to use the dfGUI program to launch it
once it is started, dfGUI can either be closed outright or minimized to the systray

when installing the client it asks about terminal output wheather to enable or diable, also you can edit the win.ini file on win9x machinesto put the .bat file in the run line.
