Another dead 75GXP?

I've had my 30GB 75GXP since September 2000 with no problems, so I thought I was safe. But today when I turned on my computer Windows wanted to do a disk consistency check all of a sudden, even though I turned my computer off properly yesterday. And wouldn't you know it, right in the middle of the check it starts making these horrible scraping sounds and Windows reports a bunch of bad sectors. Damn! This means certain doom, right? (Does anyone have the URL for that IBM support page with the .wavs you could download of sounds a drive isn't supposed to make?)

Fortunately I have a three year warranty on the drive, and I also still have the receipt. But I'll be damned if I ever put another IBM drive in my computer, any suggestions for a new storage drive (I'll probably go for 5400 RPM this time around)? I'm thinking Maxtor D540X.

Also, I'm in the middle of a large backup operation before anyone suggests that. Even though it contains no critical data, a lot of the stuff would be hell to get a hold of again.
