Another C1 2.4B @... EDIT: @3536 now~ My Ram holding me back!!

Well, I just couldn't let ErikaeanLogic have all the fun... 😀

Picked up a week39 C1 2.4B from same source Erik got his... (thanks dude 😉) Got home and poped it in my IT7 Max2 v2. Set the voltage at 1.55v to get the actual voltage at 1.53v (Abit's wonderful world of undervolting...). Set the fsb to 180, booted into windows and after some quick benches and prime, restarted it and went for 190fsb. No problem. 🙂 Set the fsb at 195, posted but got blue screen while loading windows... hmm... bumped it down to 193, 192, same thing. Then I noticed the temp hovering at ~60C!! :Q Damm that crappy AX-478 HSF... I think I effectively burned in my chip... okie... Time to rig my H2O setup... But, I had to grab dinner with my g/f and watched a movie, and it was already midnight... (Yes, I know... I'm just not committed... 😉) Got her to bed, and finished rigging up my water cooling and went to bed... From the initial "feel" of the chip, I KNOW this chip has a lot more head room. 😀 Can't wait to get home tonight... 😀

Hardware being used so far:

P4 2.4B C1 SL6EF, week 39
Abit IT7 Max2 version2
GF4 Ti4200 128MB
512MB Corsair XMS3200C2
2x40GB Seagate Barracuda IV in RAID0
160GB Maxtor for storage
Thermaltake Aquarius II H2O kit

Bench results:

Sisoft Sandra 03 memory bandwidth (2-2-2-6 @~2.65 actual vdimm)

3420(190) - 3434/3445
3438(191) - 3440/3441
3456(192) - 3443/3443
3510(195) - 3448/3447

Prime95 passed for all the speeds above (~3 hours or so.. sorry.. time constraints.. 😛). Get it to run @3510 (195fsb) required bumping the voltage to 1.55~1.58 actual voltage.

Haven't ran 3D Mark yet, seeing that I'm running a "lowly" Ti4200... 😀 Thnking about installing DX9 and may be putting 3DMark 2003? May be I'll be able to score 2500 or so? 😛

EDIT: I got my board fixed. Thanks Technonut!! 🙂 Now I'm cruising at 196fsb @3536. I found out that my Corsair is holding me back... :| Did a memtest and this piece of cr@p couldn't pass the test anything over 196fsb (even at max voltage and most relaxed setting)... It actually posted @200fsb!! Got stuck getting into windows....

How's Corsair's rma service? Anyone wanna lend me a stick? 😉😀

Just a dumb question, what's "C1"? How do you know the chip is C1 or not??

c1 is the stepping of the chip but more important is the revision of the northwood fabbed chips. being that as it may it usually constitutes to chips that are fabbed at a higher speeds and thus taking advantage of Intels highest p4 speeds to date.

You know if you have a c1 chip 3 ways...

1) If you have a 2.66b or greater, or a 2.5a or greater...cause all these chips were c1 chips though many will say the early ones of these chips are not the big overclockers now...

2) By the SL code on the outside of the retail box....go to INtel webpage and go to processor spec finder and look for the codes that state c1 stepping

3) If it states 1.525v as default...All lower stepping chips default at 1.5v....

I ran into a bit of problem... I was fiddling around in the bios after running these benches and I turned the cpu shutoff temp and system shutoff option on... Now the freaking board just shuts off right after going through the boot process... I'll get to "FF" which is the normal boot code, and then bam... shuts off... grr... temp is nowhere near the shutoff temp I set up (70C)... Any ideas...? I gotta try to push this thing to 200fsb... 😀

Serves you right for getting a schweeter chip than me😛! j/k🙂. While the system is shut off, press and hold down the "Insert" key and then hit the power button; this will boot the system at default bios settings. Go into the bios and disable the cpu shutoff temp😉.
 
hey, Sean, we got the only two week 39's from WL😀!

I'm gonna reinstall my P4B533 to see if my P4G8X is what's holding me back😉
 
We got our chips at a local computer shop. Apparently, no more week 39's...

I think I'm gonna rma my IT7 Max2 ver2... I already tried the "insert" key (it becomes your friend real quick when you jump your fsb from 180 to 200 and get no post... 😛). Don't worry. I have an IT7 Max2 (ver.1, the 845E) in the mail to play around with... 😀

I am in a similar situation as you. I have a week 47 2.4B C1 and the max I can get it to is 3.3 GHz. I am running a Swiftech MCX4000 and its at 1.7 vocre (max on my bios version). I also have the IT7 MAX 2 V2.0. I am not sure whats holding me back but I want 3.4 GHz!!

Any ideas? I thought it could have been my motherboard but I guess not...
