Well, this is what I'm looking at:

$149 AMD 3000 Venice http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103536

$105 1GB VX value http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820227213

$132 DFI Nforce4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813136152

$279 Powercolor X800XL http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Shopping/shoppingcart.asp?submit=view

What I really want to know is about the case. I have really no idea; the cases I've noticed that seemed "perfect" were the Aspire ones since they have a top exhaust, side intake above the CPU, fans going in by the HDD and out the back, a lil' window, nifty CD drive covers..... and pretty cheap.

So, is there anything else to look at? I'm thinking maybe not quite as loud of a case this time around.

One more thing: I bought a Silent Boost a while ago thinking it was for my AXP, but it was for AMD64s instead. At the time there were only 754s out; would it fit on 939s now?

Sorry about the long post. Thanks!

Yeah yeah... Nforce4 😛

I've been busy for the past couple of weeks; is the Venice core any good? I heard it might be a great OCer... has anyone had good results so far?

I have an aspire x-dreamer, and with the side and top fans on and the included psu, this case is LOUD! I have it next to my dell 420SC server, and it's like night and day. Watching dvd's on my computer kind of sucks because the white noise from the fans drowns out dialogue.

And with all those fans, the case still runs hot! It might be cooler if I put in front and rear fans, but I can't take any more noise out of that thing.

I'd really recommend you go for something that is silent over something that is flashy. If I could do it again, I'd get an Antec Sonata, hands down. I realized that all the people who would ever see my case would get over its flashiness after the first few times, but I still have to HEAR the damn thing every time I turn it on.

Is it really? At a lanparty with a bunch of computers it doens't seem that loud (a kid brought that in at the lan party). I honestly didn't like how it looked, at all. Looks too plain.

You're right; at a lan party with a bunch of computers, the case wouldn't be the biggest noise polluter in the room, so it's fine for that. In fact, very few cases would be too loud for gaming. (I have no problem playing/hearing WoW with it)

My big problem is the fans drowning out dialogue when watching movies; the white noise of these loud fans (vs. quiet fans of my dell server) drowns out the dialogue. I end up choosing between hearing dialogue and blownig out my ears when action or music gets loud, or keeping the volume low and missing the conversations (or constantly adjusting the volume myself).

dfi requires 480 watt psu and native 24 pin power cable. for your system i would recommend fortron blue storm 500watts. alot are using that same psu and works well. any other questions concerning your motherboard head on over to dfi-street.com alot of questions can be answered there.
