Here are some quotes from the article.
"OPD you can't hide - we charge you with genocide,"
"Stop Police Terror."
, "He needs sympathy too. If he's a criminal, everybody's a criminal."
"Mixon was suspected in several rapes, including that of a 12-year-old girl"

Just one word! WOWWW

They give protest a bad name, they're idiots.

The process of dehumanizing is similar whether it's these people who dehumanize the police, or the people here who dehumanize. say, everyone in Guantanamo.

These people don't let the facts get in their way- they 'don't think he's a rapist', they're just blindly against the police, ignoring the facts of the Police justification.

And some here ignore the facts on Guantanamo inmates - don't worry if they're mistreated, and ignore the facts suggesting many are innocent of any crime.

Think for a moment about an Al Queda member - kill them on sight, right? They've never watched CNN, never read the NY Times, never seen a presidential debate. Their exposure is to another world, another culture, to the recruiters for groups who discuss the need to stand up for their religion and family and country against evil. And yet people here hold them accountable for not taking the side of the US and refusing to join. How much sense does that really make? The blindness seems similar between both of these groups.

Who is the Original Poster trying to dehumanize? It wouldn't be to protesters by any chance?

I see the OP as criticizing, not dehumanizing. Not that I can say that conclusively, but I don't see a reason to say otherwise.

Brutal. This animal kills four cops and people march for him. The justice here would have been rooftop marksmen piling rounds into the crowd until it dispersed.

It's your fault that black people can act that way, but, of course, I don't expect you to have the sense to know it. Too bad we can't have somebody piling shots into you, I guess. Do you know any black owned ammunition stores?

I've heard that violence begets violence. I wonder if that means brutal begets brutal?

Let me get this straight.

  • Guy gets locked up for allegedly raping women, including a 12-year old. He gets paroled.
  • Guy kills two cops for pulling him over for a traffic violation while he is violating parole.
  • Guy kills two more cops when they try to capture him at his sister's apartment.
  • People ignore the above, claim he is a victim and protest on his behalf?

Is there more to the story?

Probably about 400 years of slavery.

Nope, that petty much covers it. I agree with skoorb's position....

Slavery did not start in the United States, was not unique to the United States, and continued to exist in other parts of the world after it was ended in the United States. In fact we spent about 620,000 lives purging it from the United States and it was ended in 1865 which was about 143 years prior to what is taking place in Oakland in 2008.

I've heard that violence begets violence. I wonder if that means brutal begets brutal?

Or if victim mentality begets victim mentality?

According to the article I glanced at there were only 60 people at the protest, so this story is really much ado about nothing. One was supposedly Mixon's mother but "The woman declined to comment and gave her name only as Athena."

No, we didn't, any more than we fought WWII to save the jews from Hitler.

Edit: a little more, but the point stands.

If by nothing you mean the autonomic racist postings we get here at any sign of black people acting in some inappropriate manner then yes, this is much ado from a bunch of nothings.

On both sides.

As you aptly pointed out there were only 60 out of a city of what, a few hundreds of thousand?
