Well see, Damon is really smart and we should all care what he has to say about things because of his days as a genius janitor at MIT, where he got his kicks anonymously solving really difficult math problems and showing up grad students in pubs with his mastery of pre-revolution economics...
Oh no, wait, that's right. That was just a movie, and he was just reading lines designed to make him look smart. Shit that he wouldn't actually know if every book in an entire library was smacked upside his head.
Seriously though, in this crazy society we actually have this tendency to believe stars really are who they play in movies. Damon is smart when it comes to acting and filmmaking for sure, but when he opens his mouth about nearly everything else, he's as dumb as the next guy, probably a bit dumber. People just have this weird collective tendency to really believe he's really Will Hunting because we saw him recite lines really well in a movie and the impression stuck. He has a tendency to play 'the smartest guy in the room' type rolls, and people actually think that translates to real life.
Meanwhile, only a dunce really gives a shit about whatever crap spews out of his mouth beyond him reciting lines in a movie.
