Another bad Antec PSU bites the dust

Alright, submitted a ticket with Antec website, sent a PM to AntecCSR. We'll see what happens.

heh, the same day last week i bought an antec PSU, i came across a bunch of threads warning about bad caps in them. Already burned once (yuk yuk yuk) by bad caps, i wasn't going to buy myself into another problem so I returned it.

so anyways, looks like i made the right choice. 😀

Wow, and people here have given me crap when I buy the cheapest PSU I can find on newegg. 😛 I got a 500w one for $26 shipped and no problems so far. I'm sure the 500w rating is bogus but 500w is more than I need.

DITTO! I'll bet same Barton system (333FSB overclocked to 400 with PC3200 RAM) that I"m running. 😀 That combo was so wildly popular 3 years ago.

Mine's been running like a champ 24/7 almost 365/year since then. Only down for periodic maintenance. :thumbsup:

My server has an Antec EPS550; no probs w/it either.

I must admit; Antecs been getting a lot of bad press of late. I wonder if they really HAVE gone downhill, or "all these bad powersupplies" are just a representation of the fact that they sell more PS's than anyone else, therefore there are more of them out there to break. Make sense? 😕

Honestly, I don't see how that can be considered a PSU failure. Looks to me like the motherboard developed a short (possibly something on the backside of the motherboard shorted the PSU connector solder joints?). It looks like the PSU did exactly what it was designed to do: deliver current. If the motherboard short wasn't enough to trip the PSU's internal circuit breaker, there's no way for the PSU to have known that something was wrong.

I'm not saying PSUs don't go bad. I'm just saying the blame in this case should be directed at the motherboard.

Antec wont do anything if the PSU is out of warranty!!

If a company that makes one of the most popular cases (P180) causes my motherboard to fry, I will definitely show pictures to them and see what they have to say about it, assuming that I did not do anything to cause it of course.

You can just ask them. You have got nothing to lose by doing that. Or you can say"Antec wont do anything if the PSU is out of warranty". Of course, then, you will never know what they really would have said!.

I am speaking from reading and talking with people who have dealt with Antec customer service!

yet I have heard of a few other companies who will replace other components if it was there PSU that caused the problems!

In fatc there was a real good thread a while back about somebody whose PSU blew up and took there mobo and harddrives or something like that and they were replaced...
I am thinking it was Seasonic that replaced all that stuff!

Yeah, but as someone pointed out in that thread, Seasonic didn't offer to do that... that guy got fed up and sent them his whole system and he obviously got lucky. I would rather go with a power supply that didn't cause problems like that in the first place. 😛

BTW, I've had my Antec Trupower 430 for several years now and it's still working just fine. When I do upgrade it will be to a PC&P unit but I don't anticipate that upgrade for at least 6 months.

I start upgrading everything part by part after about 2-3 years. I figure after that long something could blow at any time.

Call me crazy but I just bought an Antec NeoHE 430 to replace aging but still functional SmartPower 🙂
