Another Auto Motorist Runs A Bicyclist Off The Road,..

So much hate towards bicyclists,..

I wouldn't be surprised (but, I would be hopeful) if the government starts allowing bicyclists to carry hand guns at least.

I mean, we are allowed on the road. There are no laws that bar us from using roads. And, with so many threats about running us over,.. arming ourselves would be the only option.

It is a shame it may come to that.

I'd like to see them tagged like other vehicles. The funds could be used to build more bike lanes.

I'm very pro-biking, and if I lived in anything resembling a bike-friendly area, I totally would. Unfortunately the only way to get to work is via the interstate (or an incredibly long drive through the back woods) and it's about 20 miles away.

I don't mind [tour de franco wannabe] cyclists...as long as they stay in the bike lane, stay off roads which don't have bike lanes [ie: 2 lane country roads], and follow the same rules of the road as motorcycles and automobiles [stop signs, red lights, etc].

That's some pretty strong ATOT logic right there. Just follow the same rules of the road as the motorcycles and automobiles. You know, stay in the bike lanes and off of 2 lane country roads.

It's really a pity that the mayor did not have a dashcam. I bet that the cyclist ran the stop street and that is why there was a close call.

Stay off my lawn.. I mean road. But seriously bikers suck. Stick to bike paths and stop bitching when you inconvenience us drivers with your slow asses blocking traffic. You will lose vs a car every time.

Oh good a place to tell my cyclist rage story:

Was going home the other day and a cyclist was out in the road 'controlling the lane' on a road with hills and no shoulder. So I followed her as she crested hills ever so slowly on a 45mph road until my self and a crap ton of other cars could finally pass her on a straightaway. So I come to a red light and here she comes - passing all the cars stopped at the light that just passed her. She gets to the light - looks both ways - and then runs the red light. So with more traffic and hills ahead I had to wait to pass her again.

My anger was palpable.

Late to the party but....$13K bike....WTH?

yup, they're out there. A buddy of mine (no kids, good job) had a $7500 downhill mountain bike. I can't see myself spending that much on a bike, but just like anything else...there's enthusiasts that will do it no problem.

In situations like this, I usually pull over as far right as possible to either block them from getting in front again, or make it as inconvenient as possible.

The only person saying he ran a stop sign is the guy in the car who by 2 peoples word is the asshole in this case.

Sounds like you simply have a bias since 1 persons word is enough to override 2 other people 1 being an unrelated witness.

I'd say you are showing your bias as the witness account doesn't actually support either side.

IF he saw the whole thing from the proper angle then I would side with the biker. He could have also looked at the exact moment the bike went down and the car drove off without actually seeing the collision and just assumed the car hit him. Or he could have seen it from the drivers side of the Mayor's car and not seen the alleged grab for the door handle that made the biker lose balance.

Try this shit in ANY other country detective sherlock. Other people getting in other people's way is something that shouldn't be happening - by logic standards and Darwin standards. No seriously - try doing this shit on foot, on motorbike, or on bicycle in other countries and see what happens.

For you - and anyone else to defend a bicyclist that rides on a public road expecting 100% safety at all times (especially when sidewalks are available) you are a complete and utter moron. I have no sympathy for you.
Hey Sherlock, bicyclists are NOT permitted to ride on sidewalks.

Yes, cyclists slow us down, but so does:

Farm tractors, school busses, snow, rain, parades, firemen holding a boot and looking for donations, accidents, construction zones, traffic lights, stop signs, and traffic.

The very high percentage of hate on this thread is troubling and illustrates why we have incidents like this. It goes something like this...

I'm driving a big car/truck and things that are smaller must give way to me! A recipe for death if you ask me.

Most of the people posting here should probably have your liscence pulled for a few months.

YESTERDAY GUYS! Yesterday I was heading to Golf. Stopped at a 4 way. Bike rider was approaching the 4 way on my left. Intersection was clear. I went. Guy blows through the 4 way, has to swerve to miss me, hits the curb and dumps his ass on the lawn. I stop to see if he is alright and he starts giving me shit for pulling out in front of him. Mother fucking stop sign asshole, do you get it!!?!?!
He bent the rim on his muay expensivo road bike.

Serves him right. When I'm on my bike, I'll generally roll through stop signs, provided it is clear. If there are other people at the stop sign, I'll stop and see what they are going to do.

Guy is a d-bag, no doubt.

He was one more word away from being a dead d-bag.

I'm a courteous driver and a courteous bike rider. There are plenty of assholes who ruin it for both.

lol that he blamed you.

I fucking also hate when cyclists group up on rural roads taking up the entire lane making it impossible to pass.

I'm shocked there aren't more cyclist/vehicle collisions along popular routes, especially in the mountains. I dread driving the twisty roads in, say, Evergreen, CO on the weekends where there are a bazillion bike trails and road cyclists. I've nearly driven off the road a few times trying to avoid cyclists passing each other and veering into the oncoming lane around blind turns. It's insane.

In Denver, most drivers do try to give a reasonable berth when passing cyclists, though certainly not all. Likewise most cyclists are fine, but the few who blow through signs and lights at rush hour are really gambling with their lives.

I hate cyclists in NYC. They whine and moan and bitch so much when you hit them.

Seriously, I think all cyclists should have license plates, pay the tax, stop at the red light and be subject to fines the same way as a motorist is.
