another ASUS cpu temp

I just got a svc gc68 and a xp1700 w/ artic alumina on a asus av7 266e. MY CPU Idle temp is at 55 while the board temp is about 30. Can any ASUS OWNERS tell me that this is a comfortable temp?? Since Asus measures temp more "REALISTICALLY".

those temps are generally in line with a7v266E "norm" temps... I'd set a personal limit of 35C over ambient case temp with an a7v266E, and you're well within that.... Chances are your idle temps (norm for a7v266es is about 5C over idle) will still be within the "reasonable" limit of the a7v266e.

by temps are abit lower then yours, 55C max, with 25 case max. I have a good cooling solution though, and its overlocked to 1.53Ghz

I feel the GC-68 is a good colling solution.

My temps are idle-48 load-52 with Stock retail cooling and 1700 not O/Ced

Mine were 50-51C under load and 25C case (this is with a swifty MCX 462 and 68CFM 80 MM Delta, XP 1800+). Asus is full of crap and there's an article out there that proves the temps are off. Don't have the link handy. Might want to try a search.

I ended up having voltage problems with my A7V266E, RMA'd it and got another bad one. Also I didn't like the fact that Asus cranked the FSB up so it performs well in benchmarks against other boards. Another issue I found out is that the CPU voltage is actually cranked up higher than specificed in the BIOS to ensure stability. Of course no one was told this. Set you voltage to 1.75 or whatever default is and go into MBM. Ye shall see. I think that switching powersupply is a big part of the problem with the board. Epox has the same setup for the 8KHA+. Think about all the posts re: voltages etc...

Exchanged it for a KR7A 133 RAID. Have to say this is a sweet board. My first Abit and I'm very happy.

If you can find the article, i would appreciate it, because its is completely FALSE. How was the article accomplished? External "digital doc" type thermistor compared to the socket-thermistor? Yes, the digital doc reading will be lower, but then again, the digital doc reading is lower than the DIE temperature. Yes, because its an external reading and because it doesnt' only measure core-edge temp. In addition, different sides of the core are warmer than others, something that 99% of the side-thermistor reviewers never bother to check.

Void Your Warranty Internal Diode versus A7V Socket-thermistor Tests

Here's the same socket-thermistor with asus' compensation versus a calibrated internal diode measurement. Save 2 Cases, even asus compensation reads under what DIE temp really is.

I get anywhere from 48C-61C depending on the load with my 1800+ XP. The case temp sits around 28-31C. Your temps don't seem unreasonable.

2 case fans

my board temps are 25C overclocked, 23C normal, which is pretty damn cool, my super 7 board temps were 30C constant.

Thanks for all your reply. Even though I knew asus readings were higher, I just wanted to make sure I was in the ball park. I had the same chip with same cooler running at 45C on Abit KR7A and then it jumped up to 55C on the Asus so I had to make sure.
