Another Amazon Prime Misdelivery Permanently Unresolved

Wife and I live at an address that differs by one (1) letter from another address a half-mile down the road occupied by criminals. No joke. The USPS success rate for delivering Amazon Prime orders is 50% at best. That USPS Annex manager, being aware the wife and I have a USPS Box at a different USPS location suggests we use that USPS location street address along with the Box # as an apartment number.

Why? Because if I order something from Amazon and target an explicit POB target then Prime cannot be used for delivery benefits. That turns a 2-3 day order to delivery into a 14-20 day non-Prime order. So, I try the suggestion and it works ... until Amazon decides for the first time in five years to use UPS.

UPS does not deliver to USPS POB regardless of how the address is written. With a failed delivery attempt UPS holds said package for pickup but requires the named person (wife) present for pickup with ID showing they live at said delivery address (wife does not live at POB).

Call Amazon, they add-on UPS, and Amazon says without the named person present with ID showing they live at the delivery address they will not release the package. Not even with Amazon authorization. Must wait the five (5) business days before UPS sends back package before replacement order can be made to the home address, using USPS which will have a 50% chance of being delivered by USPS.

To anybody who has not worked at either a UPS/FedX/USPS shipping facility, don't be surprised when your deliveries mess up. Having worked in one, I'm not sure why investors are giving them so much money. If you could see how they manage their systems, how much of a mess everything is, you'd refuse to work with them. Then you realize there are only 3 primary logistics companies in the US and there really isn't anything you can do.

Good luck getting your packages. There's not much you can do it sounds like. Maybe send stuff to work? Luckily I live in a small community. UPS will deliver to POB, but FedX delivers to the door, which is weird because nobody in my town even has a mail box. Alternatively, I usually send high value items to my work address. The ladies in receiving don't seem to care, and I know I'll get my packages.

EDIT: Hopefully when Amazon gets their own in house shipping company going nation wide, we'll see more successful Amazon Prime deliveries, but I highly doubt that.

That sucks!

Amazon Lockers are good for small to medium size packages if there is a convenient one for you. I agree with Cozarkian on that

Got a follow up email from the Amazon CSR saying refund will come when UPS returns the package. I also just realized something the following:

Target address is a USPS Post Office. UPS knows this from failed delivery attempt.
No person can live at a USPS Post Office let alone prove by ID they do.
UPS requires ID that person on package lives at said address to pickup package.
Why UPS holds package for 5 biz days if they know the above? Idiots.

Worse yet ... when I was on the UPS website checking the tracking information I was sold on signing up for a UPS My Choice acct on the belief I could change the delivery address. When I registered, I was shocked at the wife-specific private data they had for the three challenge questions. I knew two of the answers (good husband!) and guessed correctly the third. Only after registering was I informed that I couldn't change the delivery address. Nice data mining, UPS!

Why don't you get a mail box for your Amazon purches at Mailboxes, etc or some other mom and pop shop mail box place?

I did this when I fist had ebay back in 2003. All my shit got delivered there and no one knew my real home address. They will accept UPS, FedEx, you name it. Much better than a lousy USPS mail box which probably cost more.

Okay, it's called the UPS store. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mail_Boxes_Etc.

Why can't Amazon just let customers know what carrier they are going to use before you click the last button to place an order? Why can't Amazon allow a POB with Prime for the 2-day shipping (PO still scans it delivered upon arrival)?

BTW, to my consideration for closing the Amazon account was to be immediately emailed a link to close immediately. Way to go Amazon! I guess I'll take my +50 orders/year elsewhere.

Find a nearby Amazon locker and use that?

That sucks!

Sorry, I forgot to respond to this suggestion. The nearest Amazon Locker is 21 miles from me. I live in one of Atlanta's metro counties with +900,000 residents and the closest locker is in the only Whole Foods (30 minutes w/no traffic, one way).

Why mess with it? Make your house the delivery address and if the USPS delivers to wrong address let Amazon and the USPS deal with it.

I hate USPS delivery. What was that meme I saw the other day? "USPS delivery update: your package doesn't exist." Next update: "USPS delivery: your package was delivered" :p

Sounds like a pain. I wonder if our logistic companies here in Canada are just better, I always hear these horror stories in the states but never here.

There seems to be an issue with Amazon specifically lately where people get weird stuff like rocks, or bricks.

EVERYONE has an address which differs by 1 letter to one other address that is very close by, usually several in fact. What makes your address so special?

I have delivery issues where I am and the solution was to get a UPS store box. The address reads like an apt.#

Joe Smith
1212 S. Main St. #232
Anytown, Anystate 00001

I never get any grief from people that wont ship to boxes. I just tell them it is a unit number if asked. The counter people sign for my packages so signature delivery isn't an issue. And my stuff is safe from theft. $15 a month and worth every dime
